Please... please.... please....
Quote:
Free agent FS Chris Clemons is visiting the Texans.
Clemons has a connection with new Texans director of pro personnel Brian Gaine from their Miami days. Clemons' market has been extremely quiet but he's one of the better players available. He can cover the back end and would provide an upgrade on Shiloh Keo. Clemons is our top remaining free-agent safety.
per rotoworld

2 years, $4M and I would be a happy camper

Someone (BOB) must not be happy with the job Swearinger did last year. Nonetheless, im all for bringing in Clemons. Low risk signing if its for the right cash.

Clemons is more of a center field FS while Swearinger is an in-the-box SS. If anything, this is more of a threat to Keo and Manning.

Manning has been told to restructure his contract taking a pay cut or he is going to be released.

We've officially signed Chris Clemons to a 2 year deal

I think with Clemons, Manning, Keo, Swearinger, and Lewis were set at S for the season and won't be drafting one.

I think Terrell or Pleasant has a better shot at the roster than Keo.

But I am very glad we signed Clemons!!!

Actually Manning has not agreed to take the paycut. So he could be a cap causality soon.

I really like this signing. Clemons isn't a playmaker, but we were severely lacking a true free safety last year and it showed. Clemons and Swearinger as the starter, Manning helping out in nickel situations, and Lewis for depth.

I'm thinking that this could be a done deal, but maybe Manning will see the writing on the wall and take the cut, taking safety from a thin group to one of the deepest.

I haven't looked at what's out there, but is there anything decent at some other positions of need like ILB/OLB, CB, RB that would be better than drafting?

Things seem to be coming together nicely, and with a bunch of picks, plus the reported interest in the #1 from Buffalo, the draft could shore up a lot of spots. I'm starting to believe that this could be a "reload" instead of the rebuild I was thinking it really was.

Agreed. This is a great signing. Lewis and Clemons are good, cost-effective additions to the secondary.

I really like what they have done this offseason. They are being smart about spending money and will now have a boat load of cash to spend next year.

Texans signed FS Chris Clemons to a two-year, $2.7 million contract.
Houston its overhauling its safety corps, landing Clemons and Kendrick Lewis, and bringing back Danieal Manning on a pay cut. Sophomore D.J. Swearinger also returns. Clemons, 28, started 32-of-32 games for the Dolphins the past two seasons. Although he isn't a big-time playmaker, Clemons can cover the deep middle and is a productive tackler, racking up 191 stops the past two seasons. He was a top-20 safety in Pro Football Focus' 2013 ratings.
Great signing! I love when Rick Smith finds FA secondary help

Like the signing too. Clemons is underrated. Not flashy, but he can get the job done. That means Keo wont be seeing the field on defense with Lewis and Clemons signed.

According to rotoworld, Manning has either taken a pay cut or restructured his deal to stay with the team.

Hopefully he can atleast be a rotation player. I think he did his job well enough last year to solidify that.
