Ed Werder and others

Quote:
Source says Houston Texans signing QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to a 2-year contract following visit today. Matt Schaub could be more expendable

Looks like a good back up signing with good football iq. Hopefully we move Schaub ASAP and it gets leaked who we're picking with our pick. lol

Good signing. Probably one of the best backups in the league with a ton of starting experience and if need be he can come in and win games. Also he would be a good bridge for Bortles, I guess.

Regardless, they are still going to draft a QB #1.

They better trade with Cleveland and pick up their 2 firsts and change.

I'd like it but it wouldn't make much sense. They'd still have a shot at one of the 3 top QBs and/or just pick Sammy Watkins.

To me the Fitzpatrick signing means,

1) We can now trade Schaub

2) He may be the QB this season and we pass on a 1st round QB and take a flyer on a later round guy and go QB in next years 1st.

Wow, I focus on March madness for 1 night and we've sent Schaub to the raiders and brought in Fitzpatrick??

Signing Fitzpatrick means we are drafting a QB to be our guy of the future and to battle with him in pre season. Fitzpatrick isn't a guy who you built around or move forward with but he can be a competitor while keeping a seat warm

Meanwhile Smith wins executive of the year for finding someone to trade for Schuab

How does this effect the salary cap? Do we save more than cutting him would have?

IIRC we save about $4M (difference between bonuses and actual salary) + we pick up another high late round pick.

Not sure if Rick get's EOY, but IMHO this does put him in the top 3rd of NFL GM's vs. top 1/2.

Good safety depth player I guess. Maybe this means the end of Danieal Manning? Who knows.

Kendrick Lewis started every game at safety for the Chiefs in 2013 and was an average performer, but like many of the Kansas City defenders he played his worst late in the year. The lasting image of the 2013 season for Lewis will be Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton getting behind him for the game winning touchdown in the wild card game. Lewis truly saved his worst for last; his three lowest grades of the year came in his final three games. His -2.8 overall grade ranked him 52nd among safeties, not horrible, but Kansas City will be seeking a replacement.-Pro football focus

Don't think Manning has anything to worry about, but could be replacement for Keo.

I hope Keo is gone. Lewis played his best when Romeo was DC in 2010. Hopefully he regains form and helps when/if we play 3 safeties.

Just saw that Kendrick Lewis, former Chiefs safety is headed to Houston. Don't know much about him but we can definitely use extra bodies in the secondary.

Another good depth signing. Should be a good 3rd safety and special teamer. His first 2 years he forced 8 turnovers in 28 games. Hopefully he can get back to that with Romeo coaching him again on a 1 year prove it deal.

The texans started out slow but now I think we are going to see a lot of quality depth signings in the next few days. Fitz, Powe, and Lewis are all nice additions.

With all these former Chefs signing, maybe Dunta will come back. Very Happy
