Per Rotoworld

Quote:

Colts signed ILB D'Qwell Jackson to a four-year, $22 million contract.
The deal includes $11 million guaranteed. In desperate need of a steadying presence next to Jerrell Freeman, the Colts have overpaid for linebacker help in free agency once again. This time they add a leader and one of the game's most prolific tacklers, but one that is entering his age-31 season, fits better in a 4-3 scheme and has struggled badly against the run over the last two years. Jackson also had visits with the Titans, Broncos and Dolphins.

Per Spotrac

5.5M ties for 14th in yearly average for ILB.

When are people going to realize the Cap is what, $133 mil? Within Jackson's contract, it'll probably exceed $140 million.

Basic math. Who wouldn't put down 4% of their salary cap on a solid to above average starter?

And odds are this is a contract similar to our other FAs. If it doesn't pan out in two years, we can cut him for minimal cost/high savings.

it comes down to a lot of people saying when the Browns cut him that he isn't best suited for a 3-4 defense. So paying him $5+ mill/yr for a guy playing out of position is by definition is overpaying.

My argument would be we have a couple guys (Werner, Mathis, Jackson, to some extent Jean-Francois, and some of our DBs) who are either best suited for a 4-3 or have played better then average in a 4-3 ad we play are supposed to play a hybrid defense.

Looks like Chud is already making an impact.

On conf call w D'Qwell Jackson... Says one of his 1st calls after being cut was to Chudzinski. A big reason this came together.

I think the Chud addition was a great move.

I love that we got D'Qwell, I think he will be huge for us next year.

I think the Browns are probably be going after Jarius Byrd pretty hard, maybe we can squeak TJ Ward out the back door.

Would say Mack too, but I think the Browns will match just about any offer we send out there.

Both have stated their feelings toward Chud as a coach.

I play in an IDP fantasy league, and have loved D'Qwell for years. I'm assuming he'll start, but who's most likely to start next to him? Thanks!

base salaries
year 1 - $4.5 mill

cap numbers

years2-4 $5.75 each

His year 1 base salary and the year 2 roster bonus are fully guaranteed. So realistically he only has $10.13 million guaranteed not $11 as previously reported but after guaranteeing the year 2 roster bonus the year 2 base salary is all but gonna to get paid.
