Browns are placing the transition tag on center Alex Mack, which will give Cleveland chance to match any offer sheet he would sign.

Must not have trusted his word on letting us match any offer. Now he HAS to. Now what happens if we match? Does that mean he has to sign with us or the other team has to pony up picks?

Hopefully we work something out with TJ.

Browns can match any offer, but unlike franchise tag, no compensatory picks are given to Browns if they don't match... (to my understanding)

signs with us, kinda like RFA in the NBA, if we dont match he goes elsewhere, if we match he stays with us at the offer sheet he signed

By using transition tag instead of franchise tag on C Alex Mack, tag drops almost $1 million from over $11 million to about $10.3 million.

What does that mean for Alex Mack? #Browns can match any offer within 5 days that an opposing team makes. Also lowers one-year price tag

Like I said in the cap thread... I place the bad blood / skepticism Mack has towards Cleveland solely on Banner's lap. Even after the little troll is gone he still leaves a bad stench in Berea.

That's good news! It's good we have that freed cap space

More fallout from #Browns C Alex Mack getting the transition tag? TJ Ward hits the market, as expected. And Jairus Byrd enters CLE’s view

Ugh

We're basically letting other teams figure his contract out.

Don't the Browns have the ability to franchise tag Ward? I thought the transition tag was different.

No. RT @mcgoogle11: @NFL_ATL @RapSheet can you use transition tag and franchise tag on 2 different players?

I really dont wanna lose Ward, because then things with Haden could uncertain and he might not wanna resign if we let his BFF leave without much of a fight

#TaggedTheWrongGuy

Wasn't Mack going to give us a shot to offer him anyways. The TJ talk on the other hand has been dead.

Basically the Browns are telling Alex Mack, "We own You". They now have the ability to sign him no matter what. Unless the price is too high
