I just read that teams have been talking that whatever team drafts Derek may look to sign David to be his backup

Saw the same quote. Derek was asked in a radio interview and said multiple teams had asked how he would feel about having David brought in as a mentor.

Because in a perfect world the one person you want mentoring your strong armed, pass rush freaked, bad under pressure QB who has little experience making reads is David Carr.

Here's what La Canfora has to say:

"Matt Schaub, Cleveland: With the Browns firing their front office and going with rookie GM Ray Farmer and rookie coach Mike Pettine, the likelihood they trade up or go big for a quarterback at the top of the draft has greatly diminished. I'd be surprised if they took a passer in the first round. They want competition for Brian Hoyer however, and Schaub already knows this system inside out from his time with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Houston. In fact, he thrived under him. Schaub is not as mobile and spry as he used to be, but with a new offensive system in place there, Schaub is an obvious choice and after making $15M a year the past few years, he will come cheaply. (Rex Grossman would be a fall-back plan here, with his Shanahan ties)."

I can't stand La Canfora. He mostly talks out of his [inappropriate/removed].

I'd support signing David Carr if we drafted Derek. I can't think of a better mentor and person to listen to than your older brother. He'd always support him.

I'm on the wagon that supports Hoyer.

I'm good with Schuab to be brought in to push Hoyer. But I really don't want Schuab to start.

We need to draft a QB. I really don't care who it is. As long as the FO thinks he is the right guy for the right system. (and not Manziel)

It actually would make sense to bring him or Grossman aboard.

Then maybe someone like Stephen Morris or Brent Smith

"Now that Mack is back in the fold, you've got an infinitely better o-line than I got to work with. Enjoy it."

I really don't want Hoyer to start either. I am of the opinion that any QB we draft in the first 3 rounds would probably be better than Hoyer immediately.

Fans in Cleveland are completely over-valuing what Hoyer did against a bad Vikings team (where he turned the ball over 3 times in 12 minutes just like Weeden has done) and against a depleted Cinci team putting up 17

Yeah, Hoyer gets too much love, but I would rather start Hoyer, Schaub or Grossman and lose some games than rushing and ruining a young QB. Because lets be brutally honest, we are not going to the playoffs this season, we have a completley new offense bar Cameron, Thomas, Schwartz and Gordon; we have a more zone oriented blocking scheme, and will probably have a new RB and new WR's starting. Let the rest of the offense find its feet with a QB who can provide solid play and who knows the scheme.

Obviously if we magically manage to get Teddy I think he is the only QB who will be able to start from day 1 and be successful realistically, but if we get 1 of Bortles, Carr, Garroppolo or a later guy like Murray then they would definatley benefit from sitting for even as little as half a season.

I dont think Hoyer gets that much love either hes a decent player that most want to remember the bad, but not the good. He should be used as a bridge to a rookie
