Joey Porter was hired as a defensive assistant today.

Thoughts?

Wouldn't hurt at all! That was my first thought, since this linebacker squad needs some of it

I think he's perfect to teach the guys how to rush the passer and get back a nasty attitude. Its something they were missing this year with no Harrison. The team has also missed Porters emotion I think. Smart move bringing him back into the fold.

Sweet.

Low risk, possible high reward type of move.

Can't hurt. i never thought of porter as a technique player. He was a super quick twitch athlete. But he has been coaching LB in the college ranks. Colorado St. I think.

Do any of you think this will directly help Jarvis Jones at all?

yes sir ... I believe Jarvis will be ok , rookies don't normally come in and dominate, he has to get stronger and work on his explosiveness

but Jarvis has instincts and is nasty with his hands ... And also relentless

If they can keep him in the weight room. I don't think he's ever going to have better speed, so they need to bulk him up into a pure power rusher.

Yes. It will also help Woodley and/or Worilds, Williams and Timmons in my humble opinion. Joey has that Bill Cowher type of fire and you need to have a good balance of fire and brimstone and still water that runs deep (Mike Tomlin style).

He is a good addition and loves the Steelers tradition as Jerry O did. This will help Porter's coaching career as it did Kevin Green's.

Funny, I mentioned this as a possibility but kind of forgot about the whole idea. I actually spoke to Joey for a couple minutes at the Senior Bowl, he was very collected and very well spoken. My impression about Barrett was there may have been a lot more off field counseling than anything. I don't know the details of that but I also ponder if getting Joey makes them any more likely, as it may make it less likely we consider Barrett.

If that riddle makes any sense.

I applaud the hire though. This team needs some fire, and Im sure our young guys enthusiasm & impressions about Joey will make for a natural buzz.

Joey Porter

Any doubt about his ability to coach or motivate can't be denied!!! Love this addition.

Tomlin is actually getting players that can help build his coaching tree. Lake, Porter and Olsavsky!
