Figured we could use a thread to more specifically talk about all potential free agent signings. I'll start it off with a few names...

Chris Clemons; FS; Dolphins
Louis Delmas ; SS; Lions
Terrell Suggs ; OLB/DE; Ravens

I'm not sure I have seen anyone mention safety Chris Clemons, but he might be my favorite option after Jarius Byrd and right before Malcom Jenkins. He has quietly turned into a great safety, who excels in coverage and is versatile enough to play the run. While he isn't much of a "playmaker" he has great range, and does a tremendous job at preventing long completions. He won't have the impact that Byrd would, but he would be the Jets best safety since Kerry Rhodes, along with bringing a presence to one of the teams weakest positions.

Delmas and Suggs are two players still currently on there teams roster, but who I see having high probabilities of getting cut. I have high hopes for Antonio Allen, but Delmas is an immediate upgrade over any safety on the roster. I wouldn't want the Jets to overpay for him, but $4-6 million a year would be a great signing.

I wouldn't view Suggs as a full-time starter, which is why I would only want the Jets to sign him if he comes at or around $3-5 million annually. He is on the decline for sure, but he posted 9 sacks in the first half of the season before tailing off. I don't think a signing like this limits the Jets from drafting a pass rushing prospect in the middle rounds, OR means Antwan Barnes gets cut. As Seattle proved, you cannot have too many pass rushing specialists, and Barnes is still a question mark. Another huge plus to signing Suggs is the impact he could potentially have on Coples development, considering the similarity in there games. The four man rush of Suggs/Richardson/Mo/Coples on passing downs gets me giddy just thinking about it.

That's what the offseason thread is for.

It's too general of a thread for such an important topic. I've seen multiple FA suggestions go unnoticed. It would probably be better off for discussion of rumors, Jet related tweets, and miscellaneous off-season topics. If mods find this thread to be unnecessary, they can go ahead and lock it.

Like both of those safeties. At the end of the day I hope we can land Byrd but there is definitely some good players out there. I'm not convinced the Jets will kick Landry to the curb just yet if we can't land one of the top guys though.

My free agent #1 remains Jeremy Maclin. As much as I'd love Byrd, I feel like Maclin could provide such a huge impact for our offense. I'm friends with some astute Eagle fans who swear by Maclin. I've seen a lot of him myself and mocked him to the Jets a few times back in 2009, but the more and more I see highlights of him, the more I can see him breaking out on this team. I feel like his luck is just about to turn around after dealing with the health scare in 2011 and the knee injury in 2013. I could be wrong, but I think he'll ultimately be the steal of this offseason. It'll be a shame if he resigns with the Eagles (a blessing for them)

Agreed.

Quit telling people, especially qualified posters, how to post green it's kinda annoying.

I just kind of thought this was the exact intended purpose of that thread.

I like him but I think ppl r overvaluing him here. He never had a thousand yd season and had 1 really good year where he scored 10 tds

He didn't have amazing qb play but he never lived up to expectations in Philly, so I'm not crazy optimistic he'll do so here.

I don't think he's terrible but I don't think he is my #1 guy. As of now it's between Golden Tate and Emmanuel Sanders... I think sanders could be huge if given the chance to shine

I'd love to target Byrd, Worilds and Maclin.

-Roster Changes
-Rumors
-Tweets

That isn't what this thread is. It's about potential players that we could bring in. Not a rumor, tweet, and we didn't change our roster.

Here's some more red meat for the Maclin fans. He is among a group of only nine WRs in league history to record at least 55 receptions and 750 yards in each of his first four seasons. He is also one of just five WRs to ever reach 250 catches, 3,500 yards and 25 touchdowns before his 25th birthday. (Credit: CSNPhilly's Ruben Frank)

Only six wide receivers had more red zone touchdowns than Jeremy Maclin in 2010. Additionally, despite what appears to be an injury prone label, Maclin had only missed five games in his first four seasons prior to his ACL tear.

Although Maclin’s only 6-0, he’s been a consistent red-zone threat in his career. More than half (14) of Maclin’s 26 career touchdowns have come inside the 20.

Agree with you like always JK007. If we miss out on him however, I'm a huge fan of Emmanuel Sanders (over Golden Tate even). He fits into our offense just as well as Maclin would, and he too could be on the verge of breaking out at the age of only 26.

Yup Maclin is my #1 target. And bc of the reasons you just stated, is why I'd be ok with giving him more then a 1yr deal also. He's still young, and could def. be one of the best #2 WRs in the NFL.

If Suggs is cut and doesn't garner huge $$ this offseason, I would sign him in a heart beat. What is he 31? 32? Mix him in our front 7, add a mid-round OLB to groom along with Coples I'd be ecstatic about that.

That would be awesome even though he and Coples play the same position.

There's nothing wrong with him suggesting to post in another thread. Speaking as a Mod, it's usually best to have a main thread for a broad topic, like Offseason or Mock Drafts. It keeps clutter down.

I do, however, see value in a Free Agency only thread, so it's fine to use this for that type of talk. I prefer this rather than having a thread for each individual free agent.

Speaking of free agents, I have to say I really want us to sign Byrd now. It would just be so nice to have a quality FS type in our secondary. I would give him a big contract, and then look to sign other guys to reasonable deals, like Golden Tate or Maclin for WR and then maybe resign Colon or an option like that for OG.
