http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10404094/larry-fitzgerald-restructures-deal-arizona-cardinals

Quote:
Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald signed a restructured contract with the Cardinals, apparently relieving them of his $18 million cap hit the team was scheduled to take in 2014.

Quote:
According to multiple reports, Fitzgerald's base salary was reduced to $1 million and he received an $11.75 million signing bonus. That shrunk his cap hit to $8.6 million for 2014, but, at the same time, increased his annual cap hit by $2.35 million each year.

Huge move as they have a really talented roster and now have an extra $10 million to work with this offseason.

Nice move, but yeah the following years will sting. He might be traded after this year.

I mean, he should want to restructure, he just got $11.75 million in an upfront signing bonus. He isn't really losing any money. Laughing

idk, with that cap hit the following years, wouldnt it be tougher?

Good move for the present which this team is looking at right now with Carson at the helm and no prospects behind him

I agree but every highly-paid player ends up restructuring at some point. They're still getting their dough.

The last two years of his contract are team options. Just a guess but the restructured money will go to those years and he'll get it when we cut him down the road in dead-money.

Does this make it harder or easier to trade him this off-season? With the rumors of New England showing some interest last year, I'm trying to figure out if this is a development in that story or whether it is totally unrelated.

I honestly never would have imagined Fitz still being in Arizona.. especially because of the years they had after the SuperBowl loss, I feel bad for the guy having to gut it out playing with so many different guys at QB, and each and every one of them sucked, badly. I would have sworn that he would have done whatever it would have taken for him to leave town at the first possible chance he got.. yet he is still there, and has signed a big time contract during the time I had been talking about, when there were probably a ton of different teams out there willing to have paid him everything he would have gotten from the Cards, if not more. I understand that he's a "class act" and a very "loyal" guy, but at the end of the day.. enough is enough. I'd still really like to see him on a new team.. a "contender" where he's given a chance to play with some other WRs that were good compliments to Fitz and his skills, on top of wanting to find a QB situation that is not in question one bit. It's pretty crazy.. because now the Cards team is finally getting better and being a lot more consistent then they had in the past.. hell winning 10 games last year in a division that includes the Super Bowl champs, the runner up in the NFC championship game, and then another team that has a ton of skill, but has been hit pretty badly by the injury bug to some of their most important positions. Maybe he ends up staying in Arizona for his entire career.. Some guys are just that loyal to a fault..

The SB will be pro-rated over the remaining years, so while some of it may go to those 2 years, they won't be able to push it all there.

Larry should be a great role model for some of these young WR's.

The dude keeps his mouth shut and stays clean. Works his [inappropriate/removed] off and just produces.

Not because of this. He isn't losing a single dime. All they did was convert his base salary into a signing bonus that will spread out over the remaining years to lower his cap number this year. Fitz gets his money still, the Cards get cap space in 2014 and just push the problem into 2015 as his cap hit will now be massive.

Lol no you aren't getting Fitz. This was a move to keep him in Arizona for another year.

Perhaps they'll hope for some Seattle or SF luck and get a quality QB on a rookie contract.
