It is being reported on several sources that Antonio Pierce will be signing with the NY Giants for a huge deal. Thoughts?

If that is the case and he doesn't give us a chance to match, then I wish him the best and thank him for a good job this year.

He got his shot to play with the old man going down early in the year, played a great season (minus ever getting any real penetration) and used this season to cash in.

Kendrell Bell is still on the market...

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the New York Giants have agreed to terms with free agent LB Antonio Pierce (Redskins) on a six-year deal worth $26 million including a $6.5 million signing bonus.

Pierce said he would give the possibility to the redskins to match any offer he receive
Do you think redskins could afford that?
Is it too much for Pierce?
ANy suggestion for his replacement?

I don't think Pierce has signed the contract yet. We may still have a chance.

Is 6 years 26 million too much?

In all honesty I don't think it is too much. Its a lucrative deal, but he has proved his worth in our system. We have the cap room to accomodate that sort of deal this year, although I'm not sure about the future cap ramifications. The only problem is whether it takes away from our ability to re-sign other "core" Redskins. It seems like Smoot is the only other core guy we would need to spend any kind of money on, though.

Pierce should of been starting for the last 4 years. when he was forced into a starting role as a UNDRAFTED free agent from Arizona I told everyone he was great. Then we brought that piece of crap Trotter and Pierce was pushed back. Then we brought in Barrow. Our answer at middle linebacker was right there agian. I dont blame him for leaving, he is a player. He wants to go somewhere that he will be respected and be THE guy. Just not an option. I pray we get him back but if he leaves I will still root for the guy.

Neither will I, he's a good player and I like him as a 'Skin but if he goes to a team like the Giants then I can only hope he gets a stiff arm from Portis knocking him flat on his [inappropriate/removed].

The Post is reporting that the Skins have decided that they won't match the offer made by the Giants. Apparently Pierce kept his word and gave them the chance, but they decided not to do it.

That sucks!
