Strief signed a 5-Year deal! Nice to have him back, but 5 years is huge

Five years is way too much. Strief is 31-years old...and is a mediocre run blocker. I was all for giving him a one year deal and coaching up a RT better in run blocking...but now we are pretty much stuck. Sorry...this is the one deal I don't agree with this offseason.

Little guaranteed. It's not like we're tied in to all 5 years.... Confused

I still can't find the contract details on Strief...but I suspect that it is backloaded. We can't really afford anything over the next two seasons...so we will be paying minimums. I suspect that almost all of his guaranteed money will come in years 3 and 4. So we can expect to see Zach Strief as a 35 year old starting RT who still can't run block...or we will have to eat dead cap like we did for Smith, Vilma, and Harper.

If we are trying to move more toward a balanced run/pass attack (which we should considering Brees' age) then a long-term contract for Strief is a bad decision. He can't run block. He is a passive big man who excels in pass coverage. I was all for bringing him back another year...but I think that he is going to be the next John Stinchcomb...a guy that all of us wish we didn't give a long-term deal to.

We signed Fullback Eric Lorig to a 4-year deal. Now I'm confused...

I loved Jed Collins :/ Supposedly the new guy can play TE and FB which made him attractive, but I don't ever remember him doing anything against us while on the Bucs

Why does that confuse you? We've always kept a fullback on the roster, sometimes two, and Collins was a free agent.

There were 2 options, 1) we re-sign Collins or 2) we sign someone else.

Yeah but I always had that feeling, that we're going to resign Collins. And giving Lorig a 4 year deal is wrong IMO. First thing Bucs fans are going to tell you about him, is that he is always injured...

Time to start drinking the voodoo water that wards off the injury bug then...

To be honest this front office has earned the right to do whatever. I'm not even going to question this signing.

Don't understand all the love for Jed Collins... Yes he was a good fullback two seasons ago but really dropped off this past season. Lorig is a better lead blocker and receiver out of the backfield and is big and versatile enough to be used as a blocking tight end in certain situations. This was an upgrade in my opinion.

Nice. I really like this signing. I was looking forward to seeing him last year before he got hurt.

Gives the Saints: Colston, Stills, Toon, Morgan now? And most likely Tanner?

If Morgan can stay healthy his vertical speed will be a tremendous help... Tanner will likely get beat out by a talented high draft pick.

Anyone else besides me starting to get the sense that the Saints will target either a shifty inside receiver like Cooks or Beckham at 27 and if both are off the board then turn to the top available pass rusher...

For some reason I just don't see them going corner in the first.
