Strief signed a 5-Year deal! Nice to have him back, but 5 years is huge

Five years is way too much. Strief is 31-years old...and is a mediocre run blocker. I was all for giving him a one year deal and coaching up a RT better in run blocking...but now we are pretty much stuck. Sorry...this is the one deal I don't agree with this offseason.

On the upside...it takes away one position we will not be going in the first few rounds of the draft. Locked in for WR, CB, SOLB, WILB

It won't be for the entire 5 years, and if it is, it probably means that he's consistently performing well into his mid 30's, which will only be beneficial for us. And he's not 31 yet Wink

Seriously underrated signing, I'm really happy we got this done.

$8 guaranteed over the next five seasons. We all know that we don't have money this year or next...so I suspect that we will have lots of dead money tied to his 3rd and 4th years. So...Strief really is here to stay.

that is still an average of 1.6 M guaranteed over 5 seasons..... that's amazing value regardless of how you look at it.

Vet minimum, might be worth the risk.

Definitely. IF he can stay healthy, awesome. If not, cut him and no cap space is lost.

Highly doubt he comes at vet minimum. Also weren't the Saints interested in him when he was coming out of college only to have Minnesota draft him a few picks before us and we seemingly panicked and picked Meachem?

Your thinking of Bowe... Rumors were Saints were interested in him and Chiefs took him a few picks ahead of us but Saints brass later said that they had Meachem rated higher on their board.

We'll never know...

Oh, yeah that's right, it was Dwayne Bowe I was thinking off with KC, a lot of really good SEC WRs that year.

Little guaranteed. It's not like we're tied in to all 5 years.... Confused

So... so far the Saints have signed the best FS & RT in free agency. Not bad for a team that didn't have any money to spend. Oh yeah and we also franchised the best TE in football.

If the Saints can get Graham signed to a long-term deal soon, this will be one hell of a free agency period for us!
