@AdamSchefter: Panthers announced HC Ron Rivera has signed a three-year contract extension.

@billvoth: Ron Rivera started his head coaching career at 9-19. He's 16-5 since.

Quote:
@RapSheet: Ron Rivera started 1-5 in 2011, 1-6 in 2012 and 1-3 in 2013. But #Panthers turned into a force this year by sticking with him. Well-earned

This was the year he had to prove himself, and he did.

Now he needs to make sure they don't shoot themselves in the foot early, and do better in the playoffs.

I have no real rationale behind this because they had a really great year, but I think he might be fired this time next year. Just a hunch.

I think they would've been better off with a 1 year extension. See if he can do good things with them 2 years in a row. Though it's still a good move, and Riverboat Ron definitely earned it after that turnaround.

Gettleman is making some good, sound decisions since being hired as GM.

Agreed. He's been a great hire by all accounts.

And I agree with the person that said he would have preferred to see a 1 year extension. But it isnt surprising. The decision has Jerry Richardsons fingerprints all over it. If anything, JR is loyal. You win for him, he will do whatever he can to show you love. At times to a fault.

It was a good idea to get the extension done now.

However, with Richardson, I could see us hanging on to Rivera for 4 more years; even if he fails. Maybe Gettleman has the authority to change things up if we start to faulter.

Good move by the Panthers. Rivera has the team on the cusp of many good things. Let's see if he can lead them to the promised land of the NFL.

All aboard the riverboat Ron express. He did a great job this year when he should've been fired last year. One of the best turn arounds I have seen

He was as close as you can come to getting fired without being fired early on in this season.. and now is signing a 3 year extension. That's the NFL.

Very well deserved. Riverboat Ron improved exponentially over the past year.

I doubt he would accept a 1 year deal

You reward winning... The man deserved it, That defense led them to that amazing win streak. As soon as he made his QB a game manager, They took off. Ron Rivera did great as a HC.
