2012 without Pettine
2013 with Pettine

12 INTs in 2012
23 INTs in 2013

36.0 sacks in 2012
57.0 sacks in 2013

10th in passing YPG in 2013
4th in passing YPG in 2013

5.0 YPC and 148 rushing YPG in 2012
4.4 YPC and 128 rushing YPG in 2013

Not to mention we sent Mario Williams, Marcell Dareus, Kyle Williams and Jairus Byrd all to the pro bowl from our defense. With Kiko getting robbed instead of Poz and Johnson.. I'd say sending 4 defenders to the pro bowl and having the defensive rookie of the year all on the same unit is pretty impressive. Not to mention he got 10 sacks out of Jerry Hughes and all of our starters on our DL had over 8 sacks.

He's a Rex Ryan disciple and proved last year he didn't need to be in Rex's shadow anymore. It was a great hire and I'm upset he's gone.
those some nice stats

I wonder if he's gonna wanna call plays or not

Good for him. Hopefully he gets paid well the first year, given that nothing is guaranteed in that town.

Except coaching contracts.

The Browns lead the league in paying people not to coach in Cleveland

That sounds like a sweet deal, where do I sign up?

This isn't a good day for us, but the Browns defense should be really good under Pettine.

Congrats Browns on the hire. You got a great coach.

If they get a QB and sign Tate or get a good RB, the Brownies are my pick for the AFC North title

How is this a good hire? He was a below-average coordinator who's defenses were at their best when he WAS NOT calling the plays.

Rex fired his own guy for a reason.

Rex didn't fire him, his contract was up. And it looks like he made a good decision because 1 yr on his own and hes getting a HC job.
I used fired/let go synonymous.

Pettine was another name down a long list of potential hires. This was more so luck than qualification.

Are you a Browns fan who doesn't like the selection or just a hater?

First you didn't even get your facts right about Pettine and now you're saying he was just lucky. He turned down a contract from the Jets to move on off by himself.

Quote:
Ryan announced Tuesday that Pettine, who turned down a contract extension earlier in the season, won’t be back. The News reported Tuesday that Ryan will promote Thurman to defensive coordinator.

Rex didn't fire him, his contract was up and Pettine decided to move on from rex's shadow. I'd say that has worked out quite well for him.

The Bills defense this past season was top 5 in most categories. You have no idea what the [inappropriate/removed] you're talking about.

Top 5 in most categories after being one of the worst in the league and one of the worst run defenses of ALL TIME the year before.

The work Pettine did in a year was great.

This. Sucks.

I'm seriously crushed right now.

It's been 6 years since a Bills defense has even reached the height of "competent" and the first time in god knows how long that we actually have a GOOD defense and all that momentum is destroyed after a year.

Yeah, sounds about right for the Bills really. Crying or Very sad

You guys are getting a good, no-nonsense coach with a great head for X's and O's. I think Pettine will do good work there if you let him develop things his way.

2012: Without Tim Walton
2013:With that monster

2012: 17 Int's
2013: 14 Int's

2013: 53 Sacks

2012: 18th Passing Yards Allowed
2013:19th Passing Yards Allowed

2012: 15th Rushing 4.3
2013:9th Rushing 3.7

Buffalo has a good defense and I feel it was more player growth..
You guys will be fine this up coming year..

While the Rams on paper were better, You could clearly see that our defense didn't take it up another level from 2012.. Walton gave
me the chills at night.. A wasted season on that punk.

Well, to be fair we are hiring him as a head coach, not a defensive coordinator. So who knows really.

Sigh. I knew it was coming for a while, but the final deal being reached makes it hurt all the more. Couldn't we at least get a second year out of him before he's stolen away from us? Sad

I think he's a good DC, but I just doubt he'll be a good HC. And this late meaning he'll have a harder time hiring good coaches.

I'm 100% with this.. As a Jet fan mentioned, He might be a better

HC than a cordinator.. But this hire just seems like your usual run on the mill, Hire from a bad team.. Hire a new guy, Cut him in 2-3

years. I scrolled my way to the Browns forum, And I couldn't handle the tears.. Too many feels, Good luck guys.
