Well, at least that means Velasco probably won't be returning to Pittsburgh. Laughing

Man.. HC all the way down to O-Line Coach? He couldn't find a coordinator job at least? I guess I think a bit more of Munchak then others. So in that case, I think that's a hell of a hire for the Steelers

He's never been a coordinator. Not his craft.

I wasn't aware of that, but makes more sense to me now. Was he an OL coach before he got the HC gig in Tennessee?

Since 97. Coached since 94 for them.

Thanks for the info, I clearly didn't know much about Munchak

What a hire! Our O-line is seriously so so bad. Laughing

I have high hopes for DeCastro and Pouncey, but not so much everyone else. Gilbert is okay. The others are less than desirable.

Now they just need their OL to stay healthy

I'll say that even with some of the injuries, the players who filled in did a good job this season. Fernando Velasco played very well in place of Maurkice Pouncey, and Cody Wallace played well in place of Velasco. Mike Adams might not be cut out for LT, but Kelvin Beachum did a decent job there. David DeCastro played great, and Ramon Foster was steady. Marcus Gilbert was up and down, but acceptable. The Ts probably need some work, but I really like the way the interior O-line is shaping up. Mike Munchak will make men out of all of them.

Now all the Steelers need is a NT and a secondary overhaul, and they'll be back in the mix. Smile

Great hire, OL always seems to be a weakness on recent Steelers teams. He is one of the best in the business, and it will pay immediate dividends IMO for the team.

Steelers have a good bit of talent on our OL, but the players themselves don't seem to live up to their billing.

Pouncey regressed from his outstanding rookie season
Gilbert regressed from his rookie season
Adams regressed from his rookie season

DeCastro got noticeably better and Ramon Foster is Ramon Foster. If Munchak can come in and get Adams and Gilbert to live up to most of their potential, even if Munchak is only here for 1 season, it ends up being a great hire

Velasco is a good player. Make him the LG, Pouncey the center, and DeCastro the RG and I'm willing to bet Munchak will turn that interior into one of the best in the league.

I've heard Titan fans say Velasco isn't that great of a guard... not true?

He's a better center than guard but he can definitely play OG and play it at an above average level. If Pouncey is locked in at center, no reason to keep Velasco on the bench.

Definitely agree and I hope we have them both next year. I just wasn't sure if Velasco at Center and Pouncey at OG would be better or not.

Awesome hire. If anyone can bring out the potential of the high draft picks on the OL it will be Munchak.
