Adrian Peterson: "I'm just looking forward to heading in the right direction. I feel like the organization did a great job of bringing in Zimmer and offensive coordinator Norv Turner. I feel like we're putting the pieces in the right place so I'm just excited to see who all we bring in to coach other positions and to see which direction as far as bringing in players to help us accomplish our goal of winning a championship."

Sounds like Peterson no longer has issue with the dismissal of Frazier.

Anyone think it's possible Edwards could be LB coach with lil Zim as DC?

I sure hope not, for one reason only I just don't like father and son working together, just adds another layer for something to go wrong IMO

Well young Zimmer and young Turner are already going to be on the staff...

At least based on reports.

ya I just think coaches should be worried about coaching not what they might look like in front of their kids. I might be reading to much into it I just feel like it could be a distraction. there are plenty of argument tho for each side just one mans opinion

You can also say that there is a greater trust amongst family and a shared desire for success that is stronger due to the family connection. There are positives.

Ya know VD . . . after a long week like I've had, that comment is truly theraputic Wink

Nepotism is never really a good thing . . . make your kid work for others to earn a rep. Too many cases in the NFL of father-son coaching duos turn-out poorly.

I also read that Pagac is gone to Buffalo or somewhere. Looks like Zimmer's doing the right thing . . . cleaning house on the defensive staff, but keeping some continuity on offense and special teams.

Hope Lil Zim, is at most a positional coach, reporting directly to the DC.
Also hope Zimmer has an agreement with the DC to work Lil Zim's behind off. No free passes which will make him a a better DC eventually down the line for another team.

It has been 12 years since he has been a positions coach. I am hoping it is like riding a bike. I mean who exactly has he helped develop that went on to have NFL success? I am really curious.

I honestly would have rather had a more experienced DL coach that has spent at least some time in the NFL.

While he wasn't the position coach at the time, he was the DC when Husain Abdullah played at Wazzu.

He did coach DE/DT Rob Meier for 1 year there as DL coach (Meier was a 9-year player for Jacksonville).

It's really difficult to gauge it considering the schools he worked at aren't really considered NFL proving grounds. The most notable player to come out of where he worked was Mike Iupati.

For the longest time the best blacksmiths were sons of blacksmiths, the best tanners were sons of tanners, etc. Of course talent comes in to play as well, but the sons of Zimmer and Turner have probably had a life-long internship at this point. Nepotism is only bad if the subject is un(der)qualified. Adam Z. and Scott T. have a combined 11 years of experience as NFL staff members.

I'm not too worried. A guy like Zimmer doesn't seem like the type to tolerate incompetence with his players, why would he with his staff?

But we didn't hire a Smith or a Tanner.

We hired a Zimmer (a German word meaning "room", Zimmerman means "carpenter" as in "room builder"):

And a Turner (one who works with a lathe):

Turnersson and Zimmerson would probably be the Viking names for their sons and apprentices.
