Tarver sums up the Raiders forum:

Early success = Tarver is a legit HC candidate. Hope we don't lose him

Late Fizzle = Tarver needs to go. Fire him now, he sucks!

Still get a laugh out of the complete 180 this place did on Tarver this year.

Amen to that. Definitely think Tarver did a good enough job in the first part of the season to warrant another year. To get 38 sacks from this group was impressive.

It just proved he had no answer once his original scheme was figured out. He couldn't adapt because he had no talent? Not adapting proved to yield terrible results. Was there anything to lose by trying something else?

But people should have seen it coming when the defense was actually doing good. They should have known he would call the same game all year long no matter how much opposing offenses read his calls like an open book. Right?

meh we were still good vrs the run even tho qbs carved us up even geno.

I like tarver and he is young so ill give him a pass.

sometimes i wonder if he let cwood call his own number to blitz?

I couldnt agree more to the guy who said this sums of the Raider forum. I remember when we were a top 10 D at one point this year and everyone was inlove with the guy. Lots preferred him to Allen as our coach going forward iirc. Then our entire D hit a brick wall and people were calling for his head within a short time. Im indifferent at this point due to the fact he should great potential at one point with the least talented D's in the NFL. Another year with his system in place, players growing and adding better players in general will play huge dividends for him I believe. If we do not improve after next year, than I am totally cool with him getting the boot. This is really the first year of rebuilding, the past two were dismantling the roster.

I personally have mixed feelings about this. I'm kinda/sorta glad Tarver was brought back, but I read about his contract roughly five seconds before I found out that Cleveland was letting Ray Horton look for 'lateral moves' around the league, and then I was sad.

Then I ate a bunch of birthday cake to soothe myself.

Meh, I don't hate this. Hopefully he can get more creative w/ better personnel and a year of gathering what players strengths and weaknesses are. He started out hot but cooled off tremendously. Hopefully he can build on an average first year.

Hardly a ringing endorsement! Laughing

It's like poker, you can only bluff for so long before someone calls your bluff then you're found out. Give this young, intense coach some legitimate talent (like a good all round RDE) and let him do his thing. He's young and will make some mistakes but we saw in the early half of the season what we could potentially do to sides all year with sufficient talent and options.

I like that we're resigning these guys. Are there better coaches at this present moment out there? Possibly. But to change for changes sake is back to the bad old days, I'm of the opinion you only change if a) the guy has lost the locker room or b) there is a sure fire upgrade. They could develop into great coaches in time, the one thing i do know is that Tarver and Allen won't improve if not given the chance.

hard to coach DBs when the front 7 isnt creating pressure.

Not really. They can still do their job. Will plays happen because of no pressure. Sure. But that doesnt mean they couldnt have done better developing Hayden, Chekwa, Adams, Ross. Not to mention the other guys we had on PS. Teaching Jenkins some things who got torched the most week after week doing the same stuff. Honestly the QB's that hurt us the most were the guys who got the ball out quick and pressure would not have mattered much anyways unless there was better coverage to begin with. I hope we get a new DL coach as well.

Ya probably best DL coach we had both times he was here. Too bad our DL this last time around underachieved. Its clear it was the players fault in that case.

Tarver did well the 1st half of the season. Unfortunately, we had some injuries and before you know it our season flushed down the toilet.

So when his D-line does well it's because of him, but when they don't it's on the players? However that doesn't apply to Tarver? Have I got that right?

I hope us sticking with the majority of our coaching staff pays off.
