Done deal.

Per Scheftner.

Not to be outdone by Chargers bringing back their DC John Pagano, Raiders have re-signed their DC Jason Tarver.

Meh, I don't hate this. Hopefully he can get more creative w/ better personnel and a year of gathering what players strengths and weaknesses are. He started out hot but cooled off tremendously. Hopefully he can build on an average first year.

I like it. I think he at least deserves another shot based on the performance of the defense early in the season. I can't excuse the blowouts later on, but I can't help but wonder if the lack of talent, the injuries and fatigue with a lot of first time starters took their toll. With Allen around another season, I don't see a problem with retaining Tarver too as long as DA wants him. Hopefully we can add some talent to the defense so we can see if Tarver is capable of more.

Need more position coaches I think. Not sold on the job our DL coach does either. I feel bad for him but I hope losing his son hasn't caused him to lose focus. Seems like the guys believe in Tarver but not sure they are getting enough fine tuning from the limited staff. What Tarver needs is a Al Saunders for defense. Guy that loves to go out there and show these guys how its done and teach them up.

The first half of the season he really out performed everyones expectations. Then came crashing down to earth the latter half of the season. I'll be excited to see what he can do with some more talent on the defense.

he got figured out the 2nd half of the season. the only way we could apply pressure was bringing the house and we got burned because of it at times. i like his scheme and i think our defense can be good with a few added pieces.

Tarver sums up the Raiders forum:

Early success = Tarver is a legit HC candidate. Hope we don't lose him

Late Fizzle = Tarver needs to go. Fire him now, he sucks!

Still get a laugh out of the complete 180 this place did on Tarver this year.

I like him.

Letes hope Reggie brings in some pass rushers, so they don't have to blitz so much

Amen to that. Definitely think Tarver did a good enough job in the first part of the season to warrant another year. To get 38 sacks from this group was impressive.

In my opinion they are a joke. In the last ten years there drafts sucked.

Bingo. I hate how people have this idea that Tarver's play calling was super terrible at the back end of last year. Sure he called a couple of bad games, but at the end of the day talent will out and we had none.

It just proved he had no answer once his original scheme was figured out. He couldn't adapt because he had no talent? Not adapting proved to yield terrible results. Was there anything to lose by trying something else?

But people should have seen it coming when the defense was actually doing good. They should have known he would call the same game all year long no matter how much opposing offenses read his calls like an open book. Right?

His scheme was the way it was because he had no edge rush threat. The few times guys like Houston and Hunter could get pressure he could get more creative.

Adapt? When he stopped sending extra blitzers, they couldn't get pressure. Then the coverage would eventually break down. I mean the Linebackers had the majority of the sacks the last half of the season. Houston and Hunter combined for 9 sacks on the year.
