Detroit Lions are hiring Jim Caldwell as their head coach, per a league source.

It looks to be official. Interested to see who our next OC will be.

Lions-Jim Caldwell official. Hired. Browns last team with an HC opening.

Yep. I think we can finally start to hear who Baltimore is interested in now.

Biggest domino in terms of our offseason coaching carousel has now fallen. We'll see where we end up when the dust settles. I'm prepared to either be extremely excited or alternatively to be incredibly angry if something like promoting Hostler ends up happening.

As far as Caldwell is concerned, I'm happy for him, it'll be good for him to prove once and for all whether he was a product of Peyton or not when he was a HC in Indy. I think he probably makes a better HC than OC for that matter; regardless of the fact that he didn't do great things this year, I'll always be grateful to him for his role in bringing us a championship. Best of luck to the guy in Detroit. Probably means we lose Teryl Austin, unfortunately, but hopefully he doesn't take much other coaching talent with him.

Wilson is speculating Jim Hostler, Norv Turner, Ben McAdoo, Dowell Loggains, Mike Sullivan, and Brad Childress. Out of that list I want McAdoo. He's probably close to a head coaching stint somewhere though.

Among the candidates to go with Jim Caldwell: former Ravens RBs coach Wilbert Montgomery, OL coach Andy Moeller and DBs coach Teryl Austin

Not much outside of Austin. I imagine Baltimore will block whoever they really don't want to get away besides Austin since he would be getting a promotion.

Took a while, but I'm happy it ultimately worked out for both parties. And this definitely shows you the type of class this organization has in waiting to make any announcements in regards to a new OC simply out of respect to Caldwell and his job search.

I think he can definitely be a positive influence on Stafford and help that Lion's team get over the hump next season, and I certainly appreciate all he did for us, specifically helping to coordinate that magical Super Bowl run. However, it was definitely time for a change and I can't think of a better name to throw into the hat than this guy...

Among the better external candidates could include Norv Turner, if he gets out of Browns contract, Rob Chudzinski, Ben McAdoo, Bill Lazor

Not familiar with Lazor. I've heard his name thrown around for other jobs.

He did a solid job at UVA considering what he was working with at QB and WR. Liked how he used Perry Jones who had a similar skill set to Rice.

I'm not thrilled about Teryl Austin leaving to be the DC...

I'm happy for him, though, seriously and thank him for the SB run. I wish Jim the best in Detroit. Hopefully he takes Hostler with him.

Promote Teryl Austin to DC, take a freaking risk!

Two risks, in fact, because promoting in-house for OC is just reaffirming this organisation's contentment with offensive mediocrity.

I see two signs that Hostler's in strong contention:

1. Caldwell relayed plays through him this year, so he's been getting familiar with the play calling process and talking to Flacco on the field.

2. In the press conference, Ozzie reffered to him as a "real, real good recievers coach". Two "reals"! I mean using one is sufficient to say he's doing his job well, but two? Dead giveaway that he's building his hype for something more. Laughing

What about defensive mediocrity? Given health and talent, our defense was more dissappointing than our offense.

Don't get wrong, I like the idea of Austin replacing Pees, but I don't see why an internal hire can only improve one side of the ball.
