We officially have the #27 overall pick. I figured we could also use this thread to discuss what we do with this pick.

I wanted a LT for most of the season but with how well Armstead started to look, I want a CB if Justin Gilbert is there. Otherwise I REALLY want Kyle Van Noy.

Round 1. Austin Sefarian Jenkins TE Washington, before you ask... think Gronk and Hernandez.
Round 2. Jeremiah Attaicho OLB GA Tech
Round 3. De'Anthony Thomas RB Oregon
Round 4. Jimmy Garapollo QB Eastern Illinois
Round 5. Juwuan James OT Tennessee
Round 6. Chris Harris CB Auburn

We may go after the Titans CB, in FA. I forget his name. Also, I think Tim Lelito will be our starting Center next season. Finally, I could see us making a move for Jarius Byrd.

You realize we're like $7,000,000 over the cap right? No way we can afford to make moves like throwing huge money at Byrd and Verner.

Just like we couldn't afford Brees, Colston, Lofton, Hawthorne, and Bunkley in the same year?

I'm not really sure if we need to draft a CB or a OLB with the 1st pick, though a CB would be nice for depth.

I wouldn't mind looking for a WR in the first round to help improve our offense. Outside of depth at a few spots our defense looked really good, and even with injuries our defense still looked damn good.

As much as the offense has taken a step back, I still feel the Saints MUST continue to build this defense into one of the elite units in the NFL and I honestly feel they aren't far off.

Despite the popular belief that we need another pass rusher, I feel getting Butler back will help out in that department and the Saints actually were ranked fairly high in total sacks this year without him.

At 27th overall we need to take the most dynamic defensive playmaker available, a difference maker and impact player like we got in Vaccaro last season.

Dennard, Michigan State
Gilbert, Oklahoma State
Hageman, Minnesota
Tuitt, Notre Dame
Nix III, Notre Dame
Mosley, Alabama
Murphy, Stanford
Beasley, Clemson
Van Noy, BYU
Elay, Missouri

Are all prospects that could potentially fall to 27... Remember the Saints were in this very position a few years back and Cam Jordan who was considered a top 15 pick fell all the way to 24. The run defense must improve this offseason.

We're losing Haralson, and who knows with Butler. I'd definitely say OLB is a need. I think we can find some good WRs just fine in the 2nd round. Plus if we take Gilbert he's a dynamic returner as well, so he'll definitely help out our special teams along with our D.

Options for the 1st round pick:

- FS Calvin Pryor
- CB Justin Gilbert
- OLB Jeremiah Attaochu
- OLB Kyle Van Noy

I'd also consider trading down. Getting a 2nd and a 4th or something might be beneficial for us.

I also like Pryor.

Trading down is not a bad idea either.

For me, the first two picks must be a FS and a CB. I don't want to see Harper nor Jenkins back.

Pryor + Kenny V + Bush going into next season as our 3 S set would be nice in my opinion. Physical but can also cover fairly well.

Lewis + White + Robinson + Gilbert (hypothetically) as our top 4 CBs next season would also leave me feeling pretty good.

Then in the middle rounds, select like a Marcus Smith for the OLB spot to rotate with Bush and I think we'd have a pretty stout D.

Guys, lets be realistic. We're a "3-4" team, but we mostly lined up with 4 defensive lineman.
Junior - Hicks - Bunkley - Jordan
Harper - Lofton - Hawthorne
Lewis - Jenkins - Vacarro - Greer

I'd say that's what our defense resembled most of this season. On defense, I'd say our biggest needs are OLB (Not 3-4 OLB) and CB. On offense, we desperately need a #1 WR and a RT.

You don't think we lined up with 4 down lineman mostly because of the lack of 3-4 OLBs we had?

One of the biggest reasons we lined up in a 4 man front was Junior Galette and with his breakout season that might not change much moving forward.

The simple fact is that Galette while very good this season was mediocre playing in a 2 point stance. He was much more productive out of his 4 point stance so I doubt we will ever see a full fledge 34 as long as Galette is productive.
