Will McClay

http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/article-NickEatman/McClay-Moving-Up-Within-Cowboys%E2%80%99-Scouting-Department/0c536fb2-09a2-40d2-9fb6-ffa07ae45708

Back in June, this happened:
Quote:

Will McClay has been named the assistant director of player personnel, reporting to Stephen Jones, the club’s vice president and director of player personnel. McClay will work alongside Tom Ciskowski, who has been named the director of scouting.

Before, his title of director of football research meant he worked closely with the pro side of scouting. Now, McClay will be more involved in the day-to-day operations for both pro and college scouting.

McClay is expected to have more communication with both Jerry and Stephen Jones in all personnel decisions.

In large part, you can thank him for the cast-of-no-name players who came here and have been productive.

According to Bryan Broaddus he is going to be the main guy in the draft this year, or the "lead dog" as he put it.

Apparently he wants to avoid the discount injured player we have relied on so heavily in the past.

Quote:

“@whizz17: @BryanBroaddus how is the relationship between McClay and Garrett??” Worked well all season. See if that carries over.

Quote:
“@rwilson31: @BryanBroaddus @DerekTschirhart I must have missed tweet...who is lead dog this year??” Will McClay

Quote:
“@Bird33Ward: @BryanBroaddus @DerekTschirhart Bryan is this McClay guy any good at his job” right direction.

Quote:
“@dexterharris28: @BryanBroaddus @DerekTschirhart should be interesting is he afraid to take mean players like Garrett?” He is different

Quote:
“@otero1: @BryanBroaddus Does Will McClay understand building from the inside/out? #20YearsofSuck #BuildTheTrenches” He knows. In good hands

Quote:
“@Mike_Carbon: @BryanBroaddus Must have missed it. Is McClay in charge of draft now?” Lead dog in sled. Happened last summer.

...clearly Jerry is still GM. So don't let the title fool you. But he is taking a much more influencing role in this team. Perhaps being groomed for the role?

So no more 2nd round guys who dropped due to injury? Guess that would rule out Easley.

Anything that takes power away from Jerry is a good thing. Hope this guy does well.

I'd be pretty pissed if we pass on Easley in the 3rd, depending on his pro day. But 2nd round would probably be a bit too early for me anyway despite his talent, with a decent DT class.

No one is taking power away from Jerry, nor will anyone be the GM as long as he's alive. Move on.

Bill didn't take any power away from him when he was here???

JG hasn't taken any power away? Seems like JG has some control over some of the things that go on in Cowboys camp?

Yes, we know Jerry is in charge, just ask him, he will tell you. But to say whatever Jerry say goes is pretty ludicrous. Lets all move on!

He said whatever Jerry says go. All im saying is when Bill was here, that was not the case, he got what he wanted. To a certain degree, JG gets what he wants, now be it cuz Jerry wants to succeed or not is not the point. If you want to look in a broad sense, well hell, I bet you could say the same about all owners, they are the ultimate deciosn makes of their team, I don't think any coach or GM of any team could do some against. the wishes of the owner and it will all fine and dandy. BUt whatever, killing time at work and got on here for a bit. I was better off playing Candy Crush on Facebook, more entertainment value than here................im out Smile

Great as long as everyone is on the same page (no more 5th rated prospects showing up on the big board that the defensive coaches don't believe fit their scheme) and it gets Jerry to quit listening to everyone and their mother about potential draft prospects.

We need someone that has a plan, and that plan specifically involves building the trenches.

I know this isn't going to fly but here goes. Now with someone who can actually evaluate REAL talent in our war room, would anyone be willing to move a player or 2 to aquire more picks AND loosen up the cap?

Im hoping Clowney's antics have somehow dropped him into striking position for a trade up.

I don't. I want no part of Clowney.
