In recent years, the NFL in general has had success in staging games in London. One individual team, the Bills, have been successful staging home games in Toronto even if they do lose.

Which brings me to this - I'd like to see the Seahawks play a home game at BC Place in Vancouver every year based on the success of the other series of games played outside the US. Like the Bills, the Seahawks have a decent fanbase in another Canadian province - that being British Columbia.

Of course such games would be played in December to avoid conflict with the CFL schedule (the Bills have recently returned to playing their Toronto game in December as well).

What do you think of this idea?

No. I can be swayed to have an away game played there though Smile

As somebody who lives near the area - I love the idea!

BC Place is about the same size as Rogers Centre. I think Toronto is closer to Buffalo than Vancouver is to Seattle (this is only relevant because a team must be within 75 miles of an alternate venue).

The real reason I don't see it happening is because Seattle has no incentive to give away a home game to Vancouver. Maybe a pre-season game but there's no way they play a home game in Vancouver. The reason Buffalo was willing to "give" Toronto one of their home games is because they were paid handsomely for it. The Bills needed to money in order to avoid being relocated entirely. The Seahawks don't need the revenue and are in no danger of losing their team.

I'd go see if a pre-season game in Vancouver if the price was reasonable. Heck I'd go watch practices if they wanted to come up and practice here. I think there are a lot of Seattle fans in Vancouver. I kind of think the CFL is a joke so there's not much of an outlet here for real football in the great white north.

Also - I would argue with your definition of the games in Toronto being a "success".

The players don't like it because the field sucks and it's essentially an away game that counts as a home game. Buffalo isn't even the most popular NFL team in Toronto or Ontario.

The Bills fans that reside in Buffalo don't like it because they lose a home game.

The Bills fans in Ontario don't like it because it's always one of the quietest games you've ever seen. I've heard regional spelling bees with louder cheers.

The only one that likes it is the Bills organization and that's only because the cheque clears. It's a cool idea but the Buffalo/Toronto union is hardly a model to follow. I'd love to have a game in Vancouver but even getting a pre-season game in BC Place is unlikely. I would like to see the NFL extend their presence in Canada. Western Canada in particular doesn't have a strong football presence. There are some good high school teams but it pales in comparison to teams in the prairies and Quebec.

I'd play an away game there. I don't see anyway the NFL convinces Seattle to play a "home" game in Vancouver, given the support we have in Seattle.

With the advantage this team gets from its home-field: wouldn't this really hurt the Seahawks? (from a football standpoint, not a business one)

Buffalo in Toronto a success?

I beg to differ sir. Its been an absolute disaster, they literally can't give the tickets away. Even with handing out mass amounts of free tickets the building is half empty and this city doesnt care at all.

Also the players HATE going there as the field is garbage.

That said I would LOVE for the Hawks to come play here, but not a chance the Hawks go for it with everything the CLink means to them.

Absolutely it would hurt the team. The outdoor Kingdome (I honestly have no idea what the name of the stadium is now. C-Link field?) is designed for maximum noise on the field, so even if all the rowdiest fans showed up for the game and made a ton of noise, it would probably still be softer in Vancouver than an "average" game in Seattle. Plus, the "mystique" of playing in Seattle would be lost and opposing teams would probably gain a measure of confidence just knowing that they weren't playing in Seattle. I think some teams come in here and are psyched out before the game even starts.

Yeah its best to do that in preseason. Same thing with the nfl being in london every year. Preseason like they did in the past. Maybe try having the seahawks in vancouver once to see what its like. But not overdo it & having it every year like fraudger goodollas does with london Evil or Very Mad

I love the idea but I am not giving up a home game. But then again, the league would probably complain (and they would have a legit argument) if the Seahawks got 8 games in the CLink and a "road game" in Vancouver.

Best case scenario is do a preseason game there. We almost played the Patriots in China a few years ago. A game in Asia would be good for the league.
