Like the title says, how is Luke Kuechly not credited with the 2013 NFL Defensive POY? So who does it come down to? Quinn, Sherman, Thomas, Bowman, Dansby? I'd say it's a no-brainer, but that's just me...

I think Quinn should win it, but considering the Rams didn't make the playoffs, it's probably unlikely that he wins it. He didn't have a JJ Watt-esque season, which is what it would take on a non-playoff team, in my opinion.

Same goes for Karlos Dansby and Lavonte David, who certainly deserve it as well, even if David's season did produce some numbers we've never seen before.

So that would narrow down to a field of five, in my opinion:

Richard Sherman
Earl Thomas
Navarro Bowman
Robert Mathis
Luke Kuechly

Kuechly probably wins it, but no one should complain about any of those winning.

He wouldnt get my vote. I am a firm believer in keeping things simple and just giving it to the guy with the eye popping numbers. That guy isnt Kuechly. Lavonte David is, imo.

Kuechly would get my vote. He is the best player on the almost #1 ranked defense.

If he isn't the guy, then we need a clearer definition of "MVP".

Give me the guy with 19 sacks and 7 FFs.

Luke had a great year and may be the most VALUABLE ...but MVP is stats, I agree with that other guy that said it that one time earlier... Wink

I'd give it to Robert Mathis. Not even looking at his stats, I feel like theres just something I'm missing about how that team won 11 games (for the 2nd straight year).

is there a defensive MVP, i thought they just had defensive player of the year, which i would give to quinn or david.

There is, and never will be, a "clearer definition." It's an ambiguous title. Always has been. But if you want clear and simple, go with my criteria. Big numbers. It makes it easy.

You are correct, I assumed he meant DPOY and was just calling it DMVP.

Luke Kuechly will win it and I would be surprised if he didn't as he has been hyped up as it for the past month, but I would give it to Quinn.

Fixed the title for the thread. Forgot it was player of the year award. Still not convinced that these other guys deserve it. Kuechly led one of the top ranked defenses to a 2 seed and a first round playoff bye. Mathis and Quinn have some sexy numbers but their teams defenses are not elite. Kuechly is the key that makes this defense not only elite but amazing.
