I'm really glad the Vikings got the stadium, I wanted to keep the North intact, but all these years and that's what they come up with? It's awful, it looks like a turtle shell. They just built two very nice stadiums in Minny. Sorry but football stadiums are meant to be bowls and give me bricks over glass any day of the week.

and football helmets are meant to be leather wrap arounds.

things change. get used to it.

it's a multi-use year round stadium. not just for football.

Kind of looks a little like Allianz Arena meets transparent University of Phoenix Stadium, to me.

Certain features of the new stadium aren't exactly the greatest, but I don't know what everyone's problem with it is. Inside it's gorgeous:

The Vikes originally wanted an open air stadium to save money. The state wanted no part of a stadium project that didnt involve a roof, so they pushed the Vikes to pursue a more expensive stadium that would require much more funding. The Vikes then wanted a retractable roof, but the Vikes would have had to cover the entire cost of that, which is very expensive.

So they compromised on a roof that feels open to the outdoors without the elements.

The state wanted a multi purpose venue, and obviously, you cant have many events in an outdoor stadium in the middle of winter in MN.

Why are they gonna play 2 years at the university of minnisota ? Why not just play at the metrodome till the new stadium is finished ? Can it not hold up another 2 years ?

They're building the new stadium on the grounds of the old one.

watch this animated clip and you'll see how as they tear down sections of the MetroDome, they are right behind it building sections of the new stadium:
