The Vikings and Minnesota governor Mark Dayton announced a bid to pursue Super Bowl LII in 2018.

Dayton: “The Super Bowl is the most watched annual event in the world. In addition to game attendees, it brings over 100,000 people to the host community for a weeklong celebration. Hosting the Super Bowl would bring enormous economic benefits to many Minnesota businesses, as well as provide a terrific opportunity to again showcase Minnesota to the world.”

Lester Bagley, Vikings vice president of public affairs/stadium development, said the contingent working on the Minneapolis bid was encouraged to hear Goodell say the league is looking for opportunities to “come into new markets” and that “the number of cities that are going to get multiple Super Bowls at one time, I think, are incredibly limited.” Bagley also said the Minneapolis contingent believes fans and the league have embraced the outdoor venue for Super Bowl week, including the “Super Bowl Boulevard” on Broadway in New York City.

Bagley: “That’s been spectacular. That would look great on Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis. So there are a lot of great things for Minneapolis and St. Paul to bring to the table.”

The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority this week finalized its purchase of a square block of once-contested downtown Minneapolis property across the street from the site of the new Vikings stadium. The parcel, which the MSFA bought from Minneapolis Venture for $17.1 million, includes the underground Downtown East parking ramp, a light rail stop and a plaza to be used by the Vikings for game-day events. The sale closed on Tuesday.

The MSFA and local developer Ryan Cos., meanwhile, are also expected to finalize their joint purchase of five blocks of adjacent downtown property from the Star Tribune by early next week -- Ryan will buy four blocks, while the MSFA will buy one. The land -- now largely occupied by the Star Tribune's headquarters and surface parking lots -- will be the site of the $400 million Downtown East development, which will include a parking ramp, two 18-story commercial and residential towers and a nearly two-block public park.

Team officials talked repeatedly about how different the “fan experience” will be [at the new stadium]. LaCroix said fans will not have to give up the “comforts of home” to attend the game.

“We think the fan experience is going to be unlike anything our fans know is coming,” he said.

Within a couple of weeks, the team plans to open a 7,500-square-foot facility designed to simulate that experience, giving fans — and prospective seat license buyers — the feel of being a stadium that will span 1.75 million square feet, about double the size of the Metrodome. Inside will be more of everything — more concession stands, more restaurants, more bathrooms. The number of high-definition televisions will jump to 800 from 280. Wireless Internet will run throughout the facility, and the two videoboards in the complex will increase to 12,560 square feet from 646 square feet.

Didn't see this one posted anywhere:

Minneapolis should be really excited about this whole project. Kinda reminds me of Millennium Park (without the Amphitheater) with a stadium next to it.
