Eagles finish with the 22nd overall pick

The goal of this mock is to get better on defense. More specifically, to bring in a pass rush that actually gets there. The Eagles, under Billy Davis, blitz A LOT... however, they are only 24th in the NFL in sacks. The Eagles are dead last in causing FF's as well. That changes after this mock. Also needed are playmakers in the secondary and red zone threats. Also -- another thing I tried to keep in mind while making this mock - Chip Kelly wants to bring in "his guys". So, I expect him to once again, focus in on the Pac-12 and Oregon. As an offensive minded HC, I can see him wanting to bring in even more speed.

---------------

Cuts/Not Resigned

Michael Vick
Isaac Sopoaga (+3.75 mil)
Pat Chung (+3.25 mil)
Nate Allen
Kurt Coleman
Brandon Hughes
Casey Matthews (+650k)
Colt Anderson
Brad Smith (+1.5 mil)
Arrelious Benn (+1 mil)
Damaris Johnson (+570k)
Jason Avant (+3.25 mil) - I really dont see us paying his large roster bonus com may.
Jeremy Maclin - i'd like for us to re-sign him, however, i think for sure he'll want to go play in KC

---------------

Re-signed/Extended

ILB Demeco Ryans (6.8 mil) restructures, saving 4 mil against the cap - Meco is having a very good year and is a good fit in Billy Davis' defense.

DL Cedric Thornton - Effective DL in Davis' defense

DL Clifton Geathers - good depth, give him a low offer and have him battle in camp

OLB Phillip Hunt - tendered at the lowest level - see what he can do in camp

WR Riley Cooper - has a very good raport with Foles. Do not want to break that up.

P Donnie Jones

----------------

Trade:

DE/OLB Trent Cole to Chicago for a 2014 5th rounder (+6.6mil)

TE Brent Celek to Kansas City for a 6th round pick - +4mil savings

7th round pick for 2015 6th

----------------

Free Agency:

Arrow OLB Demarcus Ware -
The Cowboys are going to be 20 million+ over the projected cap. Ware carries a 16 mil pricetag next year and doesn't really fit the 4-3. Cutting him saves the cows about 8 mil. Some tough decisions with the few big contracts on that team and not a lot of choices to save some money. (Romo - no, Sean Lee - no, miles austin - no: all dead money, witten - no: all dead money, Brandon Carr - no: all dead money). Ware comes in and replaces Trent Cole.

Arrow CB Walter Thurmund iii -
WT3 is primed to be a great CB in the leage. He just needs more opportunities. WT3 has been very impressive for the 2nd ranked Seahawks passing D. At a few points this season, I've caught Seahawks fans clammoring for WT3 to start over Brandon Browner. Thurmond is only 26 and played for Chip Kelley at Oregon.

Arrow FS Malcolm Jenkins -Effective blitzing saftey who has 2.5 sacks and 2 FF's this year. New Orleans, like Dallas, is WAAAAY over the projected cap number. NO has a top 3 passing D this year and Jenkins' play this year has contributed to that. I'd like Byrd -- however, i think some team will throw a LOT of money at him.

Arrow SS Stevie Brown - Short-term, prove it deal. coming off an injury. Wont be too expensive. Led the league 2 years ago in INT's. Competes with Earl Wolff to see who comes out as the starter.

Arrow WR Danario Alexander - A one year, prove it deal for the 6-5, 217 pounder, who is coming off a torn ACL. He caught 37 passes for 658 yards and seven touchdowns last season in the final nine games. Weapon in the red zone. Brought in to compete with Arrelious Benn.

------------

DRAFT:

TRADE - Eagles trade #22 and their 5th round pick to the 49ers for #30 and KC's 2nd round selection (#60)

1st round:
Arrow Kyle Van Noy, OLB, BYU
Height: 6-3. Weight: 235.
-Van Noy is a difference maker, who is a highly athletic, pure pass rusher. Regardless of Ware coming in, the Eagles blitz a LOT under Davis and do not have the sacks to show for it. Adding Ware and Van Noy to this defense, is a big upgrade.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2tL4xUZP_8

2nd Round:
Arrow De'Anthony Thomas, RB, Oregon
Height: 5-9. Weight: 173.
-One of the most explosive playmakers i've seen in CFB. Just a special talent that Chip can use at RB/WR/KR/PR.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZ_eIM9EV0I

2nd Round:
Arrow Paul Richardson, WR, Colorado
Height: 6-1. Weight: 170.
-Another Pac 12 guy. Richardson is an explosive deep threat with crazy speed. He will fall b/c he has a slight frame at 170 pounds. But - he will be another weapon and mismatch for Chip Kelly to surround Nick Foles with.
-Chip knows all about Richardson's speed. Check out the Oregon/Colorado game below.

http://draftbreakdown.com/video/paul-richardson-vs-oregon-2013/

3rd Round:
Arrow Shayne Skov, ILB, Stanford
Height: 6-3. Weight: 244.
-Skov sheds blocks with ease. Works through trash VERY well. Is physical with great instincts. Another Pac 12 guy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSkn7uB4QJE

4th Round:
Arrow CB Pierre Desir, Lindenwood, Sr., 6-2, 206

5th Round (from Chicago):
Arrow Keith Price, QB, Washington
Height: 6-1. Weight: 195

5th round (from NE):
Arrow DeAndre Coleman, DE/DT, California
Height: 6-5. Weight: 320.

-Coleman, like Skov, sheds blocks with ease....finds the ball carrier... makes the tackle. He would be great depth all along the DL. Yet another from the Pac 12

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfEbJUP-Bp8

6th Round (from KC):
Arrow SS Nat Berhe, SDSU
-LOVE me some Nat Behre. Great tackler, physical, great instincts. #20 aside, dude has some Dawkins-like qualities

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJsPj6UWoNU

PFA / Practice Squad / Depth -

Tevin McDonald, S, Eastern Washington
-TJ Mcdonald's brother. Tevin is a former UCLA guy, who i'm sure Chip is very familiar with. He has lot of character concerns, but also a lot of talent.

DE/OLB Larry Webster, Bloomsburg, Sr., 6-7, 240

WR John Brown, Pittsburgh State - 4.3 speed, very good KR/PR

Dakota Dozier, OG, Furman

James Franklin, QB Missouri

Joe Jon Duncan, TE Dixie State College

Alex Neutz, WR, Buffalo

Chris Coyle, TE, Arizona State

----------

Iím bored soÖ

Free Agency is insanely unrealistic. First off Ware is a Cowboy next year, lets be real. They arenít cutting him, it will not happen. Walter Thurmond is a young corner who is best in the slot. Teams arenít going to overpay for that, he will be back in Seattle. I donít think Malcolm Jenkins is an upgrade at safety. Danario Alexander is not any good, no interest in him at all.

That trade with 49ers makes no senseÖ why would they give up that kind of value for our 1st and a 5th?

I like Van Noy. Thomas in the second could happen and I wouldnít hate it. Paul Richardson is a guy I like, but there could be better options available in 2nd. Skov would make sense from a PAC 12 standpoint, but he is not the kind of player Chip Kelly normally targets. Canít stand Keith Price, he is a total bum. I like Coleman, I mocked him to us as well. Chris Coyle <3

Honestly, donít like a lot of it.

I wouldn't say INSANELY unrealistic.

How does Dallas get under the cap? They are going to be over by 20+. Ware is the only logical choice to go... Doesn't fit a 4-3 and will cost a fortune. EVERY other high-priced contract on that team has too much dead money to cut.

Thurmond makes sense, b/c he's an Oregon guy with a lot of talent. I never said overpay for that. Just that it makes sense.

Malcolm Jenkins is an upgrade over Nate Allen. I don't care that Allen has had a good couple of weeks. He's a bum and needs to go.

Alexander is a red zone threat.... something we need. and he will come cheap.

49ers trade was a bit of a stretch... but, if there is a player they absolutely love, I can see them trading up. keep in mind -- Marcus Lattimore and Tank Caradine are both going to be healthy this year. They also have 2 second rounders (one of which is late)

Malcolm Jenkins and Demarcus Ware are not leaving their teams.

Having us sign Ware is INSANELY unrealistic, no doubt about it.

Probably in some way that doesn't make them release one of the best pass rushers in NFL history. Laughing

For the most part, I like it. But the part I don't understand is drafting a RB in the 2nd round. This team has almost all of it's needs on Defense and Shady is having one of the best statistical seasons of his career. Bryce Brown is a very decent backup too. It just doesn't make sense. I'd say they go for the BPA on a secondary position before going offense in the 2nd round.

Try a google search. Google dallas cowboys cap grantland, and your question will be answered.

Well if we aren't overpaying, why would he leave the Hawks? They aren't going to just let him walk, they are going to offer him a decent deal.

Maybe its just me, but I don't think that Malcolm Jenkins is that good? Don't think the Saints let him walk anyways.

Doesn't change the fact that Alexander is garbage.

If we had cap trouble would we cut LeSean McCoy? Why the hell would Dallas cut one of the NFL's elite players. Doesn't happen. They'll cut other bad contracts (Spencer, Austin, Free) and restructure some others. They'll do a bunch of stuff but long story short, they're not cutting DeMarcus Ware.

Restructuring Romo, Lee, Carr and witten is easier said than done. All four would have to agree. Which is a little unrealistic

And I stand corrected... they are 31 mil over

Doug Free saves them 3.5 --- every other big contract is dead money if cut

Ware is not elite in a 4-3

McCoy is what? 25?

Ware is 32 and not a fit in a 4-3... and Dallas desperately needs money

A few things.....

I like the cuts and not resignings. Agree with most. Don't like keeping Meco even at a lower price...we should part ways either cut him or try to get a 6th or 7th maybe for him which is optimistic but possible.

Hate free agency. Ware? No. He'll be 32 and we need to rebuild and he will want big money plus I doubt he leaves Dallas. Don't like Jenkins. Byrd is way more realistic. I say keep Chung and sign a S like Byrd then draft one mid round. Maybe keep Colt.

Stevie Brown isn't bad but idk if NY lets him go. Danario Alexander noooo thanks. Love the talent but he's never gonna be healthy

Draft....
NO way SF gives us their first and second to move up 8 spots and a fifth round pick. they're too smart.

Like Van Noy if Mack is gone.

DT would be good BPA....but if we only have one second Id go WR and take Huff, Hoffman, Beckham, or Robinson over Richardson. He needs to bulk up way more....like 6-1 170 lbs that dude is.

Skovs great love him. He could start immediately. Him or Jackson there. Dunno who that CB in the fourth is but Id go CB there too.

Not a fan.

And restructuring simply means the player get's more guaranteed money, they'll agree.
