After the depressing spectacle that was watching this weeks meltdown, after watching last weeks collapse, after watching the cardinals embarrassment, I felt the need to look ahead and fantasize about future possibilities that might make watching this team a less masochistic hobby. So, off of the top of my head here's what I came up with:

Free Agency

DE Michael Johnson

Bring this man back to the ATL. Proven pass rusher and game changer just now coming into his own.

Draft

1) Jake Matthews, OT Texas A&M

2) Gabe Jackson, OG Miss State

3) Dominique Easley, DL Florida

4) Marcel Jensen, TE Fresno State

5) Calvin Barnett, DT Oklahoma State

6) Travis Swanson, C Arkansas

7) Spencer Hadley, MLB BYU

Easley probably won't be there in the 3rd.

EDIT: Otherwise solid mock.

Solid Mock. Def addresses the main needs. But do we draft a FS or are you keeping Decoud?

Def like the Michael Johnson pick. That makes me OK with OL in back to back picks.

Good question, I'd almost forgotten how drastically Decoud's play has digressed this year. I suppose in this scenario I'm banking on him bouncing back to 2012 probowl form.

When I dedicate a little more time and thought to my next mock I'll definitely factor in DeCoud's terrible play as of late and offer some competition. Thanks for the critique.

The way I see it, we already have a lot of young projects at Defensive End that are starting to show their potential, whereas our Offensive line is going to need a complete overhaul. Blalock at LG is our only O-lineman who's showed any consistency and worthiness of a starting job. That's why I decided to go with young, elite talent at OT and OG and get a proven pass rusher in FA instead of yet another young project to coax into rushing the QB. Also it seems that Offensive linemen (McClure being an exception) don't hold up well year after year with the wear and tear of being down in the trenches every play, so I say we get some fresh backs/legs with a ton of upside to hopefully push any combination of Baker/Konz/Reynolds/Holmes into becoming better players and/or out of a job.

make one of those later picks a RB, we need to boot sjax.

The rest of the mock is solid... a lot of guys in the trenches.

LOVE IT... but do we REALLY need another TE in the 4th? Toilolo/Coffman would be fine IMO, and we could spend the pick on something else (maybe FS)

Coffman has had trouble staying on the field, and even when he is healthy he's a subpar blocker. Also, he's in a contract year iirc and considering his lack of impact its improbable that he's re-signed. Even if Coffman returns to 2012 form we'll need another option at TE, and I'm just not impressed with any of the options in free agency/I hate Jimmy Graham with a passion.

That being said, after we bolster the trenches I see TE/FS as equal moderate needs and that pick in the 4th could go either way.

While I agree with the sentiments that S-Jax and Decoud have been massive liabilities this year, the issue is with money. A high value pass rusher in his prime the caliber of Michael Johnson is going to exhaust much of our FA funds and we've recently invested a good chunk of change in Jackson and Decoud's contracts. I'm not sure if there are production clauses in their contracts, but if they're like most contracts then its going to cost us more than its worth to cut either of them (especially S-Jax who JUST signed with us)

I think if we give these two players help then they are capable of returning to the probowl type of play they have produced before. Or atleast I have to because for atleast next year we don't really have a choice.

i def get the money situation....Decoud jus needs to play better. his coverage and tackling this year has jus been horrific.

and SJax will be fine if we can get some consistent line play. and then with our WRs 100% healthy, he should find more holes and less ppl in the box.

now my question to u is....would it be better to grab a T and G and move Holmes/Baker to the right side, or would should we grab 2 OTs and use Mike Johnson as our RG?
