I don't think you waste a single pick on a QB. Once Vick is let go I believe signing a veteran QB is the way to go. Even if you don't like Barkley, you HAVE to develop him until he proves that he is not an NFL QB. I don't think that it's wise for him to attempt to prove that as a 3rd stringer or while competing with a rookie for the 2nd string job. Either hand him the 2nd QB job or make him compete for it against a veteran like Chad Henne. A veteran with many NFL starts will be needed in that QB room once Vick is gone.

Brett Smith would be a good backup we could take in the mid rounds (assuming he declares- Wyoming will have a new HC/System next year).

FA
S Jairus Byrd
CB Tracy Porter
OG Jon Asamoah

Draft

1 Davante Adams WR
2 Jeremiah Attaochu OLB
3 Yawin Smallwood ILB
4 Brett Smith QB
5 Billy Turner OT
5 DeVante Parker WR
7 Colt Lyerla TE

UDFA
K Chris Boswell
C Corey Linsley
OG Brian Clarke
RB Tim Flanders
WR/RS Walter Powell
CB/RS Marcus Williams
CB BJ Lowery
NT Beau Allen
OLB Tyler Starr
DE Ben Gardner
S Jacques Washington

Depth Chart
QB Nick Foles/Brett Smith/Matt Barkley
RB Shady/Brown/Flanders/Polk
FB LOL
TE Celek/Ertz/Lyerla (Cut Casey)
WR DJax/Adams/Cooper/Parker/Brad Smith/Powell
LT Peters/Turner
LG Mathis/Clarke
C Kelce/Linsley
RG Asamoah/Barbre
RT Johnson/Kelly

DE Cox/Curry
NT Logan/Allen
DE Thornton/Gardner
OLB Barwin/Attaochu/Starr
ILB Ryans/Kendricks
ILB Smallwood/Knott or Acho or Matthews or Goode
OLB Cole/Attaochu

CB Porter/Lowery/Williams
FS Byrd/Allen
SS Wolff/Anderson/Washington

K Boswell

PR Jackson/Powell/M Williams
KR Smith/Powell/M Williams

2014 record: 15-1 (we let Barkley start in week 17 to boost his trade value- doesn't work)

I don't think drafting Barkley in the 4th this year means we can't draft another mid-round qb next year if Chip and Co aren't sold on Barkley as a reliable backup.

Drafting another QB is pointless. It's not a bad idea in theory. But this team has some depth holes I would like filled first. The reason teams like Seattle and San Fran are so good, is because their backups could start on other teams. In order for us to become like them, we have to create the same level of depth by getting BPA's and not worrying about position.

Honestly, when Vick walks, it's Foles or bust. It doesn't exactly matter who steps in, I don't see them having Mccown type of success; ala - plug and play.
Kind of a homer opinion, but lets see if we can't bring back Dixon if he is available, and let him and Barley make plays and fight for the backup spot, and cross our fingers and pray for the best.

we need to fix our passing D.

We give up a LOT of yards (thankfully we've been saved by redzone D and turnovers in the redzone). I'm starting to think that both Safety and Corner are big big needs this offseason

FA CB
Alterraun Verner
Walter Thurmond
Brandon Browner
Captain Munnerlyn
Charles Tillman
Tim Jennings

FA S
Jairus Byrd
Stevie Brown
Bernard Pollard
Donte Whitner
Mike Mitchell

DRAFT CB
Andre Hal
Darqueze Dennard
Justin Gilbert
EJ Gaines
Jason Verrett
Pierre Desir

DRAFT S
Haha Clinton-Dix
Deone Bucannon
Kurtis Drummond
Lamarcus Joyner
Nat Berhe

of that list the only really small corners are Tim Jennings and Captain Munnerlyn. And both are really good.

A few mocks have us taking a CB first round so far.

Was wondering, to you draftniks, with Lee still on the board in most mocks, would we still be taking CB that early?

Depends which CB it is.

If it's Ifo then I'd pass on him, if its Dennard then I say draft away.

2-3 of those are 5'10, not really big either

The kid from Oregon was getting obvious attention but I figured we'd be hellbent on getting that pass rush LB first round if it fit.

Wouldn't pass on either Ifro or Dennard if they are there when we pick. I have both of them graded out about equally. Purifoy from Florida would be a nice developmental pick to get in the 3rd as well.

CB's in the draft are so overrated. I would be surprised if any of the guys that get drafted in the first next year are above average players in under two years.

Sign a decent guy in FA and focus on other more promising positions early in the draft. If you need to, get a guy in the 4th-5th round.
