http://www.footballdocs.com/running_back_carries.html

Here's a table of former NFL RB's who toted to rock atleast 370+ times in a season and what they did the follwing year.

Arian carried it 351 times in the regular season, plus 54 more times in our 2 playoff games. Plus his production in the passing game.

That kind of workload taxes the body, and we're seeing that this year.

So, with that being said, I really hope Arian is not active for a couple weeks if not for the rest of the year. We have to think long term, since he just signed his extension and there's almost no way he'll be cut anytime soon. And with this season basically finished, give DJ, and Graham a chance to show what they got, cause will need 2 RBs next season to backup Foster.

I agree, we're wearing dude down. Both he and Cush could turn out to screw us in the long run. We've gotta be careful.

I really liked the initial burst DJ showed hitting holes. I hope we run him more this week.

Last week on 610am the morning guys had a guy on their show from the national press (don't remember the guys name) and he said that he's been hearing rumors around the NFL about this might be Fosters last year in a Texans uniform. He related how the Texans have been getting diminishing returns on their Foster investment, and to not be surprised if Foster is cut at the end of this season saying that he's just not worth the money being paid. I'm not sure if his guaranteed money has been paid out yet or not but if we're going to be rebuilding, freeing up that Foster money would sure help.

Great. Wait 8 years for a franchise RB, run him into the ground then cut him loose.

Meh... I don't see this happening.

Arian has been effective and productive when healthy. In 5 of 7 games (even if you count KC game where he got 1 carry before going down with injury), he was doing what he was supposed to do (and Superhuman against SEA).

Plus, his contract was designed to at least be a 3 year deal (so maybe not next season, but the 2015 season it would make sense)

the problem is he never fully recovered from his blown hammy and him rushing back constantly only continues to delay the process. he over compensates and hurts other muscles

Why won't he just take the surgery and come back next year. He's already gotten his money, do yall think he's paranoid that one of the young backs takes his spot?

I think Arian is a gamer! He wants to be out there and play. If you watch him during the losing streak, he is playing his heart out and looks let down each week (esp. Seattle game).

Plus remember, his first year he didn't hardly get any burn until last 2 games. He had 3 great years and wants to earn his money.

I agree. The one thing Arian needs - rest, recovery - is the one thing he is avoiding. A vegan lifestyle, yoga, acupuncture, whatever Arian chooses to do to get his body in order...none of it can compare to sitting and doing nothing. The human body is remarkable like that, just letting the soft tissue heal up can do wonders for him. Yet, he's not taking that option.

Admirable, yes...but he's gotta look at this long term now.

I kind of disagree with that last part. He should keep wanting to play unless he truly can't. Being limited isn't enough. It's the coaches that need to man up and just tell him no.

Phillips needs to sit Ben Tate down and tell him that this is his chance to get rich quick. A motivated Tate can be a very good thing

Given our season so far, this was the best decision he could make. No point in trying to play through it this year.
