I think this would be a great pickup for a number of reasons. He is healthy and surely can play, teach, and perform at high level.

What do you think?

I think he got cut by half crappy team because he was playing like crap and just called out their coaching staff after a loss.

Not to mention he's old as hell.

I'd rather roll with Gipson, who hasn't played too badly, and find out if it's something that needs upgraded.

I do not understand why some seem to think that giving someone a look and making him the starter are the same thing? Happens every time a player is mentioned. Slow down...

I believe we only have one back up safety - Bademosi.

I Have zero issue with them brining him in and giving him a workout (and physical) to see what he can do. If he shows enough to make the team then great! If he can make the team then in what capacity can he best benefit the defense: back up, rotation, or starter?

If he doesn't make the team at least the staff did their due diligence. No loss to the team what so ever.

He's obviously done as a productive NFL player.

As far as the team bringing him in for a look, if they did it would go against every fiber of Joe Banner's being. Old, expensive, unproductive are not the adjectives he looks for in free agents.

Old - yes. 35 now I believe?

Expensive - not really if he can show he is good enough to start, but as a backup yes.

Unproductive - he has always been highly productive before THIS year. The reason behind that could be numerous, and he could be right that the Texans simply suck...

I would like to bring him in only if he accepts being a back up and only plays in certain kinds of packages. I think he could have an impact in the locker room and the film room but thats about it

Not so sure that's a good thing...a vet like Reed should be busting his [inappropriate/removed] as an example for everyone else even if the texans are in the running for the #1 pick. Personally I want nothing to do with him because I think Gispson has played well and wouldn't want his development hindered by Reed stealing reps.

Maybe he is busting his rear, but no one else is? That is pretty much what the guy just said.

Why does giving Reed a shot mean that he automatically starts over Gipson? IT DOESNT. It doesn't even mean that Gipson is going to get his reps "stolen." You can bring in players for depth. You can bring in players for competition.... If Reed, after making the team, was able to beat out Gipson in practice for game reps or the starting role than that would be a GOOD thing!
