I have the feeling the Jags make at least one deal before the deadline. Might be a shocker.

There are so many young receivers on the market though. Don't know that any team would be willing to give up a first for Blackmon. They can get Gordon or Little or Britt for a mid round pick. Nicks on the block as well. Maybe Dez Bryant.

Blackmon isn't leaving. His history with the substance abuse policy means that teams will pay less for him than his value on the field is. The team seems to trust Blackmon to keep things on the straight and narrow, as they picked him to be the one to unveil the jerseys when they knew that he was in trouble again. The team is also going to make sure that whomever they draft to be QB is set up as best as possible. Even with a first rounder, a pick in the late 20's-30's (which is the only group that would trade for a player like that) is not going to get the same value for that QB as Blackmon.

Keep the long term weapons we have + add more at RB and TE + get an o-line. No need to trade away one of the few long term pieces we have, it just doesn't make any sense.

But the only players on the roster who might interest other teams are the ones that could help the Jags in the future. Can't have it both ways.

If you're expecting blockbuster trades, I guess. But there are plenty of teams that will throw late round picks for aging talent or players we won't retain like those Sabo mentioned. Poz and Lewis are prime examples of players that won't still be here when we're a playoff team but that could help another team solidify a unit for 3-4 playoff runs.

I think Posluszny's contract is up this year. Lewis could get cut any day. I don't think teams would give up anything for them, but we'll see what happens.

Poz is on his deal through 2016. Marcedes isn't getting cut.

Why would we move players who can help us in the future?

I mean, we're supposed to be building towards something, not just collecting draft picks and rookies.

You move out the guys who aren't part of the long-term picture. Sure we're not going to get much of anything for those sort of guys (see: Monroe, Eugene), but anything is better than nothing for the most part. More is better obviously.

But why ditch a guy like Blackmon who won't fetch great value on the market because of his rocky off the field start? Doesn't make any sense. That's how you kick off a perpetual 'rebuild', once you start getting rid of your few young, productive pieces that could actually be part of the future.

I wasn't suggesting they trade Blackmon, just responding to someone who brought it up. He is one of the few players on the roster who might fetch a meaningful return is all I'm saying. They won't get anything for MJD, Lewis, or Posluszny. They hardly got anything for Monroe who is just entering the prime of his career at a much more valuable position.

Completely true. And realistically, there's no reason to move guys just because 'they have value'.

That's basically just a Niners fan getting grabby with our nice bits. Laughing
