Quote:
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Massachusetts State Police served Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey with a grand jury subpoena less than an hour after the Patriots defeated the Dolphins 27-17 at Gillette Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

A source with knowledge of the matter told SI.com that the subpoena is related to the investigation into Aaron Hernandez, Pouncey's close friend and former teammate at the University of Florida. The source indicated that police are focusing in on Hernandez's potential involvement in interstate gun trafficking, which is being investigated by several agencies in multiple states -- at least Massachusetts, New York and Florida.

The extent of Pouncey's potential involvement is undetermined, but police are focusing on multiple transactions that involve him and Hernandez. "Organizationally, we do not have a comment," said Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene. "And Mike Pouncey does not have a comment."

Hopefully for the Dolphins it won't be a distraction or take Pouncey away from the team for any period of time. Having lost their last 4, the last thing they need is an off-field distraction.

A subpoena just means that the prosecution considers him a fairly essential witness that can help their case.

It doesn't mean that Pouncey did anything criminal at all.

Before the forum freaks out.

It's a material witness order. Not him being charged.

I know the Dolphins forced him to apologize for wearing that FREE HERNANDEZ hat, do you thing they asked him about the depth of their friendship?

He's wanted as a witness since he was friends with Aaron Hernandez... it's probably nothing more than to testify on Hernandez's character... Pouncey isn't really involved in this case at all.

Nothing to see here, folks.

This was what I was thinking as well. I mean, what could he have to do with the case outside of character or maybe validating particular information. Honestly, he was probably in florida when this all went down.

Saw on twitter that they may want him in connection to a weapon purchased from Hernandez.

Can't see the prosecution calling him as a character witness though.

Worse than "a weapon."

Sounds pretty serious. Sounds like it falls under RICO jurisdiction. If that's the case, Pouncey is in a whole heap o' trouble.

I doubt Pouncey is in trouble.

If he's in any way involved with a firearm trafficking ring, you can bet he's in a mess.
