http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/05/06/if-chiefs-go-8-8-they-owe-49ers-a-second/

Quote:
Peter King of SI.com has filled in the blanks on the conditional 2014 pick the Chiefs owe the 49ers to complete the Alex Smith trade, noting that it’s a second-rounder if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better, but will be a third if they’re 7-9 or worse.

With the Chiefs beating the Browns and going 8-0, the compensation for the Alex Smith trade is officially a 2012 2nd round pick (34th overall) and their 2013 2nd round pick.

One of the rare trades that both teams are incredibly happy with.

KC is SB bound… can't say the same for SF!

SF has a better shot at the SB then the Chiefs

Saying any team is SB bound is just dumb at this point in the season.

Both teams got what they wanted. SF got two high value picks and KC got an improvement at QB.

As did I.

Good trade for both sides. The way Smith has played is expected and worth the pick. Both sides win.

While it's not the same thing, the niners actually parlayed Smith into 3 picks; a 2013 second, a 2014 second, and a 2014 third (via Tennessee). They traded down like 9 spots or something with the pick they got from KC with the Titans last year for their third rounder this year Very Happy

49ers also used KC's 2nd last year 34 to trade down to 40 with the Titans (Justin Hunter) and got their 3rd this year. So if you want to be technical we ended up with 2 2nds and a 3rd. We will see how it plays out though because 2 2nds and a 3rd might don't mean much once you select the players if you don't hit on them. So far it's Tank Carradine.

Not even close. SF would have to go through Seattle....

Even though I agree with you in regards to that, it's no guarantee. There's a one game difference between them with one head to head match to go. Its possible that Seattle ends up as a wildcard.
