I think our personnel is better last year than this year.

Duke is coming along,DRC, and Shaun Philips are all upgrades to what we had last year on defense.
This D played great last year and this year they have played poorly on numerous occasions.

I find it hard to believe that Del Rio just started to play zone d this year.
What has the D been bad? And can it get back to top 5?

It's the pass D that stinks, not the overall D, since we are the #1 rush defense in the league. Our pass D sucks at the moment because of the lack of pass rush.

You see that play on Sunday where Reggie Wayne tore his ACL? Luck underthrew that completely because of the amount of pressure Denver was giving him. Those were the types of pressures that Denver was able to generate last season.

It will take until after the bye week before things start to get better on D. Von needs a few weeks before he gets back to being Von to adjust to an NFL game. He might be back even as soon as next week against Washington, I hope, but I would give it some time.

Plus, Woodyard is a major loss on this defense as well especially since his backup is that scrub Lenon.

Missing Von Miller was the biggest change. We will see this defense get better as the year goes on, no doubt.

I'm not sure, personnel is improved and espishally now with Von back he made plays but was still being 2x/3x targeted in passing situations Sunday.
Make me wounder how big the loss of Doom is.

This baffles me too, they dont seem to be as confident as they were last year also.

Any possibility that Jared Allen takes a significant pay cut this off season to go play for a Super Bowl contender?

And Doom's ex-agent was suspended for 6 months today and fined. Good luck finding another client after that fiasco.

Shaun Phillips looks like an adequate replacement though.

Jay Ratliff would be a great pick-up for the second half of the season. He has 6 teams interested in him(rotoworld) and I believe he would provide some pressure up the middle.

Dumervil has nothing to do with this. Denver was playing much more man coverage in the first four games and then in the Dallas game everything changed and they went to predominantly zone. It's an awful idea for our team to play that much zone.

Isn't that also when we lost Woodyard.

Teams that struggle to get a pass rush get burned in man coverage. The zone coverage was/is an effort to eliminate some of the big plays teams are getting against us.

We are still playing a lot of man coverage too. We are seeing the zone stuff on first and second down, as well as in long 3rd down situations.

Woodyard and Von have not been on the field together as well. 2 of our 3 most valuable players (Chris Harris being the third)

I'm kinda' in the camp that mostly it has to do with the loss of WW.

Our D hasn't been the same since he was injured.
