How major hits for the Bears.

This could be a very bad stretch for the Bears coming up without Jay Cutler. He was playing as well as he ever has. Briggs is not as tough a loss as Cutler, but still rough nonetheless.

Besides the amount this sucks as a Bears fan, these are probably the 2 players I was looking forward to watching going to Lambeau in 2 weeks. Briggs is just a tremendous competitor and I think of nothing more fun than the Packers beating up on Cutler.

Seems like Cutler gets hurt every year around this time, right when the Bears are starting to look like a playoff team.

If I'm them I'm seriously considering whether or not I want to commit to him for another 4-5 years after this season.

Yeah he had the concussion against the Texans last year and then that awkward thumb injury against the Chargers the year before. Then of course that infamous knee injury against the Packers in the playoffs in 2010.

None of them are real serious injuries, but just enough to take him out long enough to really hurt the Bears season.

And I think if they do bring him back next year, which I expect them to, it won't be any more than a 3-year deal. He hasn't been consistent enough during his tenure in Chicago to get a mega contract that QBs are getting these days. Regardless of what happens with his contract, I expect them to draft his replacement (or at least someone they envision taking over) in this draft.

If that's all Chicago would be willing to offer, then I wouldn't be surprised at all if another team offered more for him.

Anyway, that's a very tough break for the Bears. It looked like they might have a shot at the playoffs this year but it will be awfully hard for them to make the playoffs with Cutler gone for part of the season.
