THIS JUST IN: Packers TE Jermichael Finley is in the ICU at a hospital after suffering neck injury vs. Browns. (via @mortreport)

This is just awful. Last I knew things were looking relatively encouraging, I hope he comes out of this ok.

There have been conflicting reports all night. The majority now say that he was kept over night as a precaution.

What is known is that he was carted off. And he lost feeling in his limbs and could not move, but was speaking while on the field. He has since regained feeling in all extremities.

Wow, sad news. Hope he recovers from this. Was a scary-looking injury...

The Packers are completely depleted in receiver, too. Any chance they look to trade for Josh Gordon or Hakeem Nicks? Laughing

Doubt it. James Jones should be back for the next game and I think we'll be fine with him, Nelson, and Boykin until Cobb is healthy.

No chance at all. James Jones should be back next week. If not, the week after that for sure. That and Ted just won't give up a valuable draft pick for a rental. Not the way he operates and I'm very glad for that. If Finley misses time, expect a guy by the name of Brandon Bostick to get a crack to replace him in the lineup.

I don't think Nicks or Gordon would be a "rental" though. Both are young guys with extreme potential, and if any deal gets done I'd imagine the Packers would have a long-term deal in place...

According to a source, tests have come back negative so far, and Finley has regained almost all movement. More tests are scheduled.

Hopefully its similar to the Calais Campbell injury in that it looked far more serious than it ended up being. Packer fans have already seen neck injuries derail Sterling Sharpe and Nick Collins.

If healthy, Nelson, Cobb and Jones are a top 5 WR trio pretty easily. If a trade was made, we wouldn't be able to afford to sign them to a long term deal with Nelson and Cobb needing new contracts sooner then later. There contracts will be fairly big. Jones contract is up after this season IIRC but should come cheaper then either Nelson or Cobb.

Ted just doesn't trade away valuable picks. He's terrific at evaluating the WR position and if we do bring in a WR, it'll be through the draft next year. 0% chance he trades for a big name WR.

That isn't even the start of the contract questions. We won't have the money for some good to solid players as is, we need to keep our picks to at least attempt some cheap replacement.

Off the top of my head, these players are FAs at the end of the season:
Jermichael Finley
James Jones
Ryan Pickett
BJ Raji
Johnny Jolly
Sam Shields(?)
CJ Wilson
Marshall Newhouse
Mike Neal
All contributors (and we don't need to debate Wilson and Newhouse, they are quality depth and spot starters, nothing more).
Add to that group looming expiring contracts of Cobb, Nelson and Morgan Burnett, there is no way that we can afford either Gordon or Nicks without killing depth.

Apparently he was walking around this morning, which is a huge plus.

He has a spinal cord injury. He is likely in the ICU because 1) he is getting IV steroids to reduce spinal cord swelling and 2) he needs more than q4 hour nursing observation.

The latest report is the he has regained MOST of his function. For you Packers fans thinking he will be back within the next 2 weeks...it's a pipe dream. You will be very luck to get him back within the month.

That really sucks for GB. Even worse though is that its a neck injury. Its always awful to hear about players going to the ICU. Hopefully he's ready to go soon. Or at least it doesn't turn out to be serious.
