"We thought we could get Reynaud the ball in space and he dropped the ball."

- Mike Munchak on the first drive. Laughing

Yeah, there's some frustration there.

Sounds like D-Will is the punt returner. Didn't commit to him as a kick returner, said something along the lines of, "we have a few other ideas we think could work back there."

I like that Munchak does not beat around the bush...he just comes right out and says what's up.

Yeah, as a fan I really appreciate the straight forwardness he brings. Don't get nearly as much coach speak as we did with Jeff.

That was your plan Munch? Good God... I'd like to know what he had shown all year to justify that in games or practice.

The running up the middle isn't working. If that is the only plan of attack we are willing to do, why not CJ?

I get the opportunity to use one of the best players in space against the other teams scrubs? Sign me up! CJ has always been good at avoiding the big hits. I think he could do it. Obviously there is some risk involved, but I think he could have a Hester-like impact for our team.

Reynaud is good in open space. Just look at last season.

His decision making is god awful though.

This move highlights one of two personnel mistakes that have cost the team greatly in the first half of the year. Obviously letting Velasco go for Turner proved to be an utterly stupid move. However putting Marc Mariani on season ending IR without the designation for return has proven to be detrimental as well. Had they designated him for return or put him on PUP they would have had him back for the Rams game. As is, we'll have to hope Williams can hold down the spot.

As for Campbell, I don't think he's agile enough to be a return man. He has tons of speed, but I think its mostly straight line speed.

Also very impressed with the FO and coaching staffs willingness to make changes mid season. Fisher would have started Reynaud and turner for the rest of the year and had their contracts extended.

On a side note, that whole Campbell thing bothers me. What does that say about his ability to play DB? If his agility is limited, then he has problems changing direction. That's kind of a big deal when you're trying to play pass coverage.

It would be a bigger deal if the he were playing in the slot, where quicker WR have the ability and the space to manuever. Ideally on the outside he's be able to use his physicality to jam WR at the line and ride him up the sideline. I think he has more than enough athletic ability to cover deep posts and flag routes and of course the 9 route. He also has the size to match up to these mammoth sized WR's that QB's just enjoy throwing deep jump balls too. Unfortunately Tommie Campbell is like the Darius Reynaud of the DB's.

As for CJ returning kicks. I'm worried about the injury risk, however most kick offs are going to be touch backs anyways. I'd throw him back there. He's currently not earning his contract, and he said he wanted to be paid as a playmaker, not a running back. At his currently level of production, I don't think he's indispensable to the offense if he were to get hurt. Perfect, put him back there. He has really good at it at East Carolina. Why not

When's the last time he fielded a punt though? That aspect of PR scares me more than anything... we don't guys Reynauding it back there constantly. I'll take a reliable guy back there with minimal return upside over a game breaker who may not field it cleanly every time.

You think we can convince Brian Mitchell out of retirement?

I think the idea of CJ returning punts is way to farfetched. How many teams use there star RB as a returner? My Campbell suggestions even a bit out there but at least he fields punts in warm ups in the pregame but there going with D Will im fine with that for now

I think CJ returning kickoffs and D-Will returning punts is what we'll see against STL.

He will be returning some of that "game changer" contract he signed 2 years ago after the season.

You still my boy CJ, but you got the late owner good on that one. Everyone remember "every coaches dream"?

That's why I said KR, not PR. I figure you muff a kickoff you should be able to recover it. The hands are a concern for sure.

I'm thinking CJ at KR, Damian at PR. Doubt they actually put CJ back there, but would be fun to see.
