Is this a competition? If so I raise you an Ethan Albright.

I'm sure some of you have read this but here's his (fake) letter to Madden about his low ratings in the game from a while back:

I enjoy that too much.

Ah, yeah that last image pretty much sums up the way we beat down Pittsburgh last year to open the season.

Um...are we thinking the year before?

Sounds like Bynes is out this week with a badly infected finger that he needed surgery to fix and Arthur Brown is in line to start on Sunday. I'm actually pretty excited for that, not so much because I think Bynes is bad but because I want to see what Brown in a bigger role can do.

I'm ecstatic that Brown is actually going to be playing a considerable amount of snaps this weekend. Bynes has shown that he's a fairly good run-stopping inside linebacker but struggles in space/when not attacking the line of scrimmage (like pretty much all of the undrafted inside linebackers Baltimore has brought in over the years).

In light of the Stacy theme, here's hoping the Ravens don't end up like this:

Awesome GDT write up!

In terms of the game, I'm hoping Brown gets the start over McClain. I'd much rather see what he can do in there... though reading Kevin Byrne's write up on McClain struggling back from his injury definitely makes me feel a little bad. Kind of want to start him just to complete the emotional journey.

... And knowing Harbaugh that's probably exactly what he will do. He'll use McClain's return as a symbolic something and use some sort of prop all the while.

So I'm not much expecting Brown to get the start at this point. But we'll see..

Two quick questions:

1. Do you guys think the Steelers will have success running the football this game?

2. To what do you attribute the Packers' success in this regard?

I think we largely shut down the run.

1. I can't be sure. I think they'll try to establish a running game. But FTMP our front 7 has been dominant against the run and pass this season. So I wouldn't bet on the Steelers having a successful running game. I think it safe that they'll more likely average something in the 3.5 range, if not less. Before the Packers game the longest run given up all season was 14 yards.

2. And segwaying from that last point, I think the main reason the Packers had "success" running the football was due to two things: a) their OL was pretty good in executing their assignments to create nice holes for their backs and b) they had a few big plays that made their running game LOOK much better than it really did over the course of the game.

Take away Eddie Lacy's first drive in which he ran for 46 yards on TWO plays, a drive where the Ravens defense wasn't into the full swing of things and likely more focused on Rodgers and that passing attack... and Lacy only has 74 yards rushing for 3.52 YPC. Obviously, you can't take those yards away from Lacy... and those yards led to a FG, which was crucial to the game. But to pretend the Packers rushing game was consistently successful would be kidding themselves or simply stat watching. They took advantage of an early opportunity... and that worked. But they couldn't consistently do it in the game nor has any opponent we've faced been able to consistently produce plays, in the running game, against this defense.

1) No.

2) Communication breakdowns and backside contain. Outside of Lacy's 50 yards on the first drive of the game, he was shut down for the entire game until the very last drive, where our defensive line had breakdowns on the backside and failed to contain on a couple of occasions.

Not to mention Ngata got dinged up, as he does from time to time, and I think was sitting on the sidelines on the last drive. Hopefully he brings it tomorrow.
