It appears that the only way to keep Blackmon from going insane on teams is for him to be suspended.
Current stats
19 catches on 29 targets, 326 yards 1 TD
On track for:
114 catches on 176 targets, 1956 yards, 6 TDs
We got some weapons fellas. _________________

I honestly can't wait until Teddy is throwing passes to him.
Most people don't realize actually how good this guy is. Hopefully with Teddy, they'll take notice. _________________

I still do not like him, nor like a top-5 pick on a slot receiver but oh my was he good from there the last 2 weeks. _________________

I don't care where JB lines up at on the field. If he's getting open and making plays, that's all I care about. _________________

Exactly. If our slot receiver is getting 100+ yards day in and day out, I don't care where he's lined up. He could play the outside, he is just more effective with how he plays in the slot. Have a healthy Shorts and ? on the outside and boom, especially with a new young QB. _________________

Just keep him in the slot and let him eat the middle of the field just like today...when they got cute with him on those side line throws, Henne threw the picks. _________________

Agreed. Coming out of the slot and working over the middle just seems to suit his skillset so nicely.
Get ourselves a real QB and another tall, decent downfield threat to play outside opposite Shorts III...run 3 WR sets for days and just rip teams apart.
The way Blackmon works the middle of the field, it's almost like having one of those 'WR/TE hybrid' types that are all the rage these days, albeit without the height. |

Blackmon is also much better downfield than I expected him to be. He and Shorts are both much better downfield targets than their speed should allow them to be. Great route running (thanks Jerry Sullivan) + elite body control for both of them kinda has that Anquan Boldin type game in that regard.
We discussed this last offseason (maybe FFMD or with the discussion around MoMass?), but Blackmon is good enough that in 2 WR sets, you can play him without any issue. What we need is a big bodied #3 option that can play outside. You kick Blackmon inside and throw the other guy outside. It doesn't have to be a bonafide starter level guy, but someone who can work outside and do well. You'd also prefer them to be a strong downfield threat, but getting all of that might be too much to ask. Someone like a Darrius Heyward-Bey would be perfect for that role. Stephen Burton has the side and speed, you hope Sullivan can work his magic there and mold him into that type of player, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
I'm really hoping they figure out a way that Cecil, Blackmon and Ace can be 1-2-3 in whatever order. The only concern for those 3 being the answer is the lack of a size guy. Maybe Cecil puts on some more muscle and grows into that and Blackmon grow into an outside role? _________________
