I feel like our run game has been below average since he left. CJ's best years(08'-10') came with Mawae as our center. Even though Mawae was on the downside of his career with us, he was still one of the better centers in the league and was the leader of our offensive line. Since he left us we havn't had even a decent center to replace him. Amano was god awful, and currently Turner might be even worse. Velasco was good at times but inconsistent. I honestly feel thats been our problem in the run game, our centers have been awful. I'm not saying CJ is perfect either, he has definitely had his issues but lets face it, its hard to be successful when the opponents DT's are constantly pushing our center back into his face as soon as he gets the ball. We have made obvious improvements at the guard position, but the problem won't be fixed until we solidify the center position and get better leadership on the OL.

Mawae wasn't a good run blocker when he was here. He was a good leader and solid enough in pass protection, but he did little to help in blocking for CJ. We ranked 26th in the NFL in 2009 in adjusted line yards behind middle/guard. Adjusted line yards is how much the line does for the RB. A good adjusted line yardage ranking means the line is a big reason for the RB's success, a bad one means, well, the opposite.
