Well, that escalated quickly. RT @ProFootballTalk: Josh Freeman is going to the Vikings per league source.

What do you guys think? Is Ponder on his way out finally? It at least shows our confidence in him

Basically he is going to come in and get a shot to be the guy. And if he is not then we dont lose anything. We already know Christian Ponder not Cassel is our QB looking ahead. So Josh is gonna get his chance with us, if he fails. Then we know that we will be looking for a QB in the upcoming draft. Which is probably very likely anyways.

What a weird, weird situation. Although the Vikings have nothing to lose if they're now convinced Poner isn't the answer. You have to think Freeman isn't signing somewhere without a near-guarantee to start, right? Otherwise, why sign? His stock isn't THAT low yet, where no other team would afford him that opportunity.

Although what's the saying? If you have more than one QB, you don't have a QB? Something like that.

I still wonder what the plan is. Is he supposed to right the ship this year or are we to build around him?

Very good question. Interesting to see how it pans out this year.

I do NOT like this. Still pretty high on Freeman.

So Ponder released? Have to think they wouldn't go back to him after Cassell preforming much better then him and now bringing in Freeman so why keep him around?

Also, can we officially call BS on Frazier for saying Ponder was still the starting QB? Lol.

I like Freeman's upside as a big armed QB, but he has a lot of work to do and its clear that the mental part of his game is severely lacking at this point. Perhaps the past two years has been draining for him, it wouldnt be the first time we have heard players complain about Schiano.

Hopefully Frazier can be a good influence for Freeman and help be that presence to make football fun and a priority again for Freeman. Freeman is still very young and can still turn his career around.

One thing is definitive though, this move will decide the fate of Spielman and Frazier. If this move doesn't work out, they both will be shown the door.

Some stuff from Glazer's Twitter:
Quote:
Vikings wanted him for a 2 year deal but josh wanted 1. It's on Ponder to play his butt off to keep his job.

Quote:
Nice pick by Freeman. Reported this AM Vikings were the leader in the clubhouse and Frazier and Spielman did a great job selling him.

not if his injury is more severe than originally suspected.

We'll see how he pans out this year. If he actually has a good year, then maybe we would draft and build around him. If not, then who knows at that point. With the acquisition, I think there is no way we will pick high enough for Brett Hundley if he comes out, and definitely no where near Teddy. I'm not particularily high on any other QB. So that in itself could get interesting.

If he plays great, we can finally build in the trenches and Lb'ers fairly high. Oh yeahhhh!

It's a one-year deal for Josh Freeman and the Vikings, per source.

Wasn't really meant to be a knock on Frazier. That's just the way NFL coaches operate and I hate it. The Vikings CLEARLY aren't happy with his play. If he's injured more then expected then that's different but if he was only going to miss a few games, that's why you signed Cassell.
