Or will he bolt for a bigger contract ala Asante Samuel?

He'll bolt for a bigger deal. A massive deal. Because he's playing up to potential right now.

I'm absolutely thrilled with how he's performed this season, especially against top competition. With that said, he's always rubbed me the wrong way. He comes off as a thug and is relatively unintelligent. In my heart of hearts I truly believe he's the type of player that is going to coast and become complacent once he gets paid (he'll be the CB analog of Chris Johnson). That's just how he strikes me. With how promising the defense has looked though, I think the organization may really make a push to sign him, irrespective of the price tag.

can they? of course they can.

Will they? They would have to spend top dollar. History shows when a guy gets to free agency, he leaves. some team will offer him more money and he will leave. But we will re-tool with a terrence wheatley in round two of the draft.

As for the prior comment with his history, do not underestimate this. He seems to have put his past behind him. Whether he stays here or goes somewhere else, I hope he has. but the pats are going to be very careful with character issues guys in the wake of the hernandez situation. As they should. What if they give him $60 million and he gets in trouble again. Remember, the only reason this guy is not in jail for murder is because he missed (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=6270645).

That being said, I think he has grown up and matured and I would love to see him back. But to quote Walter White, the Pats should tread lightly. both in terms if the financial commitment and the commitment to a player with a checkered past.

Can they? Yes.

Will they? Not sure. If the offense continues to flounder, it's going to need an allocation of resources in the offseason and that's going to be difficult with $8-10M per season tied up in Talib.

is he a shutdown corner? I am not sure but he sure is playing like it. Plus, unlike some cornerbacks, he actually has good hands. To me, there are only a handful of guys like that in the league that have his physique and size. To me, sign him. But you have to be sure his checkered past is behind him.

On a production/talent basis, he's worth a big contract.

The problem is, his motivation, character and health are all very sizable concerns.

It's a very intriguing situation. I don't think they're going to want to go more than 3 years with him and IMO he will be able to land a 4-5 year deal for big money (assuming he continues to play like this).

He signed a 1 yr deal for a better chance at a good contract. I heard we offered him a 5 yr deal and he said he'd just take a 1 yr. The CB market sucked last off season.

We could keep him. But we'll have to wait and find out.

He'll Haynesworth it I think.

A lot of teams with a LOT of cap room next year. Oakland, NY Jets, Jacksonville etc. I think he'll bolt.

Aqib Talib is the best cornerback in the league this year, he has to be resigned.

He has to resign? Is he in checkmate?

I think he meant for the Patriots perspective and not Talibs.

Right, but why does he have to resign? Is he a disgraced public servant?
