So this move doesn't open up any cap space for the Ravens but I like it a lot. With Thompson and Jones coming back somebody needed to go to open up some playing time.

On a side note there's got to be another move coming soon. I thought that one of the offensive lineman would be cut next week to bring Bajema back but that's not the case now. Currently there are 10 offensive lineman on the active roster. That's a ton. I wouldn't really be surprised to see two of them go.

EDIT:

Brandon stokley is expected to be re-signed by ravens as soon as monday so likely a temporary roster move

Well, damn. That's probably the move with an offensive lineman I alluded to above. Maybe a slight chance Doss' roster spot is in jeopardy with Jones coming back but I doubt it since he's shown some nice things as a returner and a receiver.

^^^ Doss is probably the reason they cut Stokley and not Doss. You'd have to figure with the return skills he's shown, someone would be active in picking him up off of waivers for the minimum. Whereas Stokley, on his last legs, making much more money... as a vested veteran... likely isn't going to see any attention.

In terms of the OL move, the rumors have been we could be looking to trade McKinnie... and if so, that's a move right there. Could just be seeing what's the max we could get.

Honestly, I'd take a 7th if we could get his salary commitment off the books.

I heard talk of Miami as a potential trade partner on the radio today. Like you said, getting anything for him would be a win.

I think that could work out well for Miami. He's from there and they have a need.

Could be just a matter of it would have already been done had we not been scheduled to play them today and there'd be no sense in helping them before we play.

I agree on all points. Like I said, I'd be happy with a 7th.

I've been checking Twitter and NFL News section all day. It HAS to happen, right? Too many teams need a LT even if on a short-term basis (NYG, MIA, ARI, JAX)

I've given up hope that a team would actually trade for McKinnie. I just want him off the team. Regardless, it almost has to be a move with an offensive lineman given how many there are on the active roster right now. If not McKinnie it's probably Reid.

If it's not McKinnie, I will be SHOCKED. Like I might even just sit in class for a few minutes with my mouth open while staring the room all dazed and confused because it would make zero sense not to release McKinnie or trade him now.

We'll probably find out what's happening from Harbaugh's press conference in a few minutes.

When asked about Monroe/McKinnie, he seemed to really avoid "saying" anything -- seems to me something is in the fold. He just reiterated "We'll see what happens this week".

Yeah I got the feeling that he didn't want to discuss anything about it. That almost makes me think there's a possibility of a McKinnie trade. Almost. There can't be a team out there dumb enough to want him.

Yeah, I think the smart play for this team is to keep McKinnie for as long as it takes Monroe to get up to speed.

Now McKinnie sucks, that much is true.

However if the team wants to get his contract off the books, they need to trade him. McKinnie is a lazy player, why allow him to get paid two contracts? One from us and some other team that picks him up? Releasing him would be the very last move I'd look to make.

Trading McKinnie is simply too important for being able to extend Monroe and a few of our other priority FAs for us not to hold onto McKinnie until the trade deadline.

The Ravens should stand pat until then and show opposing front offices around the league that they're willing to hold onto McKinnie for as long as it takes for them to receive compensation. Obviously the sooner he's gone, the better. But I just hope we aren't foolish enough to outright release him with his contract being guaranteed... thus allowing his lazy self to get paid twice for doing very little work in the first place.

No, I'd much rather make McKinnie suffer in Baltimore with having to watch competent tackle play and his teammates gravitating towards the more 'professional' LT. I'd rather McKinnie get fined every week he's above weight (or doesn't see his bonus, whatever his contract stipulates), I'd rather he balloon his weight up until he's fined for being overweight (allowing us to recoup some of his money)... because it's going to happen, especially with him not starting.

I can't think of a worse punishment for McKinnie than to have him wait this situation out. We've already got a backup plan, so I see no reason as to why we need to be in a hurry with this move... McKinnie is the one that is dependent on us. Heck, he may just do something foolish enough to void his contract if he gets desperate enough.

So with that said, I hope that we cut someone else to make way for Stokley... Bajema is a boomerang, I'm sure he'll be available for as long as we need him.

Haven't seen an official word on Stokely yet, nor McKinnie. Based on the silence, I have to guess that they are waiting on some mystery team to sign on the dotted line on some trade, or the league approve the move (re: salary cap), otherwise I would think the move would have been made and announced already.
