Pending a physical, Jacksonville has agreed in principle to trade OT Eugene Monroe to Baltimore, per league sources.

PUMPED!

Looking forward, he's likely to demand a sizable extension. Are we even close to having space for that?

Depending on his play, I'm sure once we are rid of McKinnie, Jacoby Jones and Vonta Leach we can accomodate for him.

YES! OH MY GOD YES! I thought there was a chance for them to sign him after the season but this is even better. Especially if it's just for multiple third day (rounds 4-7) draft picks.

2014 year of Eugene Monroe deal voided, so there's just the remainder of his $3.8 million 2013 base salary left over

I don't think there's any way he doesn't get an extension/new deal with Baltimore.

Former top 10 pick for multiple 3rd day picks, gotta be happy with that especially since he's only 26 this year and would still have quality years left in his foreseeable future

Ravens/Jags will announce the Monroe trade Wed. Ravens are not giving him a new deal now, but could eventuall. two mid-round picks to JAX

No doubt that new deal will come eventually. None at all, and very likely before Monroe hits the open market this offseason.

I love this move. Helps in the present and should help in the future as well. Mid-round draft picks are valuable because they represent potential future value... a talented, productive 26 year old left tackle represents that and possibly much more.

I expect Monroe to be re-signed eventually unless he just completely bombs. What's our cap number look like right now? I was half under the impression we would have to extend him immediately even if just for an additional year to fit him in but it doesn't sound like the case.

Trade 4 Monroe sort of explains quick hook 4 Thompson. His release saved $367K & put Ravens $1.580M under Cap. Will need more moves 4 Monroe

Ravens won't b releasing any vets 2 create needed Cap space - vested vets(4+ yrs) now have g'teed salaries. Space will come from restructure

Quote:
Brian McFarland ‏@RavensSalaryCap 41m
Ravens need approx $1.326M in Cap space to fit Monroe under Cap. Some of that will come from OL he replaces. Jah Reid is most, approx $400K

Quote:
Brian McFarland ‏@RavensSalaryCap 6m
Biggest Cap savings from release of a non-vested vet is Ed Dickson and Jeromy Miles @ approx $934K. Would still need more

It'll be tight for this season but I'm not worried about it. There aren't going to be any significant free agent signings at this point and if somebody gets hurt the most likely move is bringing somebody up from the practice squad or signing depth at the veterans minimum.
