A source tells NFL Network that Dwight Freeney sustained a torn quadriceps muscle in Sunday's win over the Cowboys.
The Chargers are still trying to determine whether Freeney will land on injured reserve. Regardless, it's a big blow to the Chargers pass rush. Through the first three games, Freeney racked up 13 quarterback hurries, three quarterback hits and a half-sack while playing on 72.3 percent of the snaps. Former first-round pick Larry English is going to have to step up opposite Jarret Johnson.

This is bad. He was the only one getting pressure regularly. We might see a move before the deadline if it's season ending.

Right now the only guys on the roster are JJ, English, and Tourek Williams. Ingram might make it back after week 8, but there's no telling how good he'll be with such a short recovery time. There's no OLB's on the PS. I don't know if there's anybody worth signing off the street right now.

There has to be somebody out there that's tanking, and has somebody to get rid of. Somebody said Woodley, which would be a good/expensive idea. Not sure who else.

I don't think we have the cap number to trade for a Woodley type. We are kind of between two rocks with this injury. We were thin and Ingram went down. freeney was our desperation move, now... I don't know. Pickings are slim.

I hope Tourek Williams can become another Barnes, quickly.

Keiser?

He didn't show up when I looked earlier. He's listed there now.

At least there's somebody.

I'm interested to see if Teleco tries to make a trade for a better pass rusher that could help us more long term. I was throwing out Orakpo's name as a possibility as he's a free agent after this year, and only making about 2.5 mil. But we could look at some other guys on non-contenders, like Kiwianuka. Another interesting guys would be Junior Galette (situational guy from NO).

Is there something wrong with Orakpo that they wouldn't want to keep him long-term, or at least franchise tag him this offseason?

No, but i dont think they'd franchise him, as thats a MASSIVE price tag (especially if he's going to claim he's a DE, since he plays a majority of snaps there). And there's the potential that if they dont franchise him, he's gone, and if they could get something like a 3rd (possibly 2nd) round pick back, especially if there's potential that he comes back to them at the end of the year, they might take it.

We can't afford to give up a 2nd to rent a guy for 12 games. We aren't a contender this season. No reason to overpay. Make due with the garbage we have because there is nothing available that would cover up the deficiency of our secondary. This is on Pags. Find a way or find your way to another job.

He or Beltre (with Keiser getting promoted from the PS and Beltre replacing him there) are what I'm expecting based off the practices of this FO in dealing with injuries thus far this season.

I want no part in Kiwianuka and to be honest I don't think the Giants have any interest in trading him because they just restructured his contract to gain cap-space, and moved salary from this year to bonus money to be divided over the following two years remaining on his contract - so trading him means they'd eat a $7.5m cap-hit... and then we've got him on the books for an average of $4.5m per season for the two years following this season. They're not eating that cap hit for a late round pick and we shouldn't be giving up more than that for a guy set to make that much money next year on the wrong side of 30.

Orakpo's a nice thought, but Washington isn't trading him because neither Snyder or Shanahan are going to admit that the season is lost... ever.

And our staff is still banking on Ingram coming back, albeit probably in a limited capacity, when he's eligible to come off the PUP. Personally at this point, I'd almost rather they just shut him down altogether for this year, though that won't happen, because if he comes back and is asked to take up too much of a workload right away the incidence for re-injury is much higher.

We were going to be mediocre at best this season - at their heart of hearts I think our FO knew that going in (Rome wasn't built in a day, you just don't win any PR contests or sell season tickets to the Coliseum advertising that the gladiators are going to be using plastic swords for the first year) - so just sit back and let this be what helps drive us to a Top 10 pick where we can finally lay hands on a premier prospect (as the QB prospects and needs at QB for teams picking high will push quality guys down the draft order) on defense that honestly we haven't had since Shawne Merriman.

What about a conditional 7th for Antwan Barnes?

And is Ingram still set to return this year or is he on the full season IR?
