UPDATE:

Quote:

Filed to ESPN: Bucs have released QB Josh Freeman. Bucs tried to trade him but couldn't.

Josh Freeman hasn't played well by any accounts. Mike Glennon will be the starter going forward for a struggling Tampa Bay offense.

Bucs have made the move: Benching Josh Freeman for Mike Glennon, per league source.

Josh Freeman hasn't played well by any accounts. Mike Glennon was a 3rd round pick in this draft and will start for the 0-3 Buccaneers.

I liked Mike Glennon in this draft. I had him as my 3rd best QB even though a lot of people didn't like him, and I mean a lot. That said, I figured he'd be a project because of his incredibly inconsistent footwork. Relies on his arm too often without proper mechanics. Has terrific ball placement at times but makes really strange decisions. Absolutely loves to throw deep.

At 6'6" he looks incredibly awkward in the pocket. Still, Tampa probably needed some sort of change with things looking worse and worse. Hopefully Glennon gives them a spark, and if not they know where to go in this coming draft.

Another team putting their hat in the ring for Teddy. Le sigh.

So will they fire Schiano in the bye week (next week) or will they wait till the end of the season?

It is about time. I was starting to think we would have to wait one more week then after they bye Glennon would come in. The sooner the better though.

Freeman was in la la land. Someone posted in the Tampa section that through the first two weeks our line was the highest ranked as far as pass blocking goes. I would expect no drop or at least a small one after week three as well. With Vincent Jackson, Mike Williams and Doug Martin and a solid line as well as a up and coming defense on your side a 5 year pro should no way be averaging 190 yards passing, .66 tds, 1 int per game as well as a fumble lost.

Time is up Josh!

Excellent move for us.

1. Let's everyone know Freeman is available for trade.
2. See if Glennon can be a starter. (I seriously doubt it)
3. Puts us in good position for Bridgewater.

I love how an inch is added to Mike Glennon every time he is brought up
at one point he was 6'6 Laughing

Freeman has not played well enough to deserve to keep the job.

Always thought it would be coming soon. It was a matter of when he would be benched, not if. His play on the field combined with some other issues made it inevitable.

I am interested to see how Glennon does. I have my doubts as to whether he can become a good starter.

Smart move. How far back would it have set back that franchise if Freeman had a random 2010-like season and Tampa gave him an expensive long term contract? They are very lucky he's flopping this year.
