FBO moved us into the top half this week, #16. Defense is down to #3. Overall #10.

So only two TE's on the roster currently (excluding the PS). Honestly kinda surprised they cut Brock and didn't replace him.

Maybe that roster spot is going to be filled by Commings? I'd tend to think McDougald will be headed back down to the PS for Commings return though.

Chiefs did work out 5 players but I didn't view any of them as really strong potential editions.

They did work out the former Giants TE recently (Ballard? I forget) so maybe it's for him..

I really think this offense overall is close to taking the next step. I believe the bye week will help greatly. They will self scout and look at what they want to keep from the first half and what they'd like to add in the 2nd half of the season.

One of the biggest areas of this offense's expansion Id like to see is more Bowe in the slot. I really do think slot routes are Bowe's best fit with Alex (cause as much as I like Alex - which is a lot - he doesn't really rip the outside routes very well). They are routes very similar to what Vernon Davis would run when he was NOT lined up tight.

Lets get through a really tough DL in Buffalo first though.. tough place to play. Need an A effort from this side of the ball there.

A blowout would be nice going into the bye.

More from FBO. Our run blocking is rated #2 in the NFL (GB 1st), but pass blocking is #24. How much credit does JC get for that?

I'm willing to bet a lot of it is also on Alex Smith scrambling for big yards. Look what Vick and Prior did to their run defense stats.

OL now ranked #1 for run blocking, 25th for pass protection.

I give more credit to Alex scrambles and JC's awesomness and maybe blocking by non linemen. If we truely had lineman opening big holes JC's yardage would increase by 40 percent or more.

I have no idea how we could be #1 for run blocking

I'm with simon on this one. Jeff Allen has easily been the worst starter on our entire team this year. The chunks of yardage we got in the 2nd half last week against the Browns probably played a huge part in us getting that boost in rankings and honestly, I don't think it's warranted.

Flash only has one 20+ yard run this year so far. That's mind boggling to me. And he STILL leads the league in yards from scrimmage. Granted, he also leads the league in touches, but still. Unless you're a priest, nobody's gonna complain about that, I guess.

yeah if we really had the #1 run blocking OL Jamaal wouldn't be averaging less than 5 YPC and he'd have lots of runs over 20 yards. Our run blocking is attrocious this season.

Does anyone remember the no huddle offense we ran earlier in the season? We showed it a little bit and had success with it but then stopped running it ever since. Something tells me that andy reid has "tricks" up his sleeve for the rest of the season. We surely wont light it up, but I can see smith throwing the ball downfield more and having more designed big plays. We have two weeks to prepare for our most important game all season, and we can have the element of surprise is we run a more up tempo offense. Having a threat at TE would really help us out, but theres really nothing we can do about that now. Id look for charles to still get his touches, but Alex might open it up a little if we run an up tempo offense in the right situations.
