Actually all individuals responsible for managing, coaching or playing their respective roles should be held to a high standard.
The issue in my view is the Lions need and perhaps have a well developed performance appraised system designed to accurately gauge the performance of each individual in the organization. As fans we aren't privy to the performance expectations and assigned grades. We are however somewhat versed in role and responsibilities of the various individuals.
When it comes to position coaches, coordinators and players its pretty cut and dried.
The position coaches are responsible to teach through explanation and demonstration the requirements and expectations of each player in their position group.
The OC oversees the offensive position coaches and is responsible for Playbook development, liaison with those position coaches and in the case of the Lions play calling.
The schemes, plays and game plan should be designed to compliment the players respective skill sets.
After design, demonstration, teaching it falls on the players to execute.
While its easy to suggest that a player not executing should be benched or cut personnel decisions on the Lions fall to Mayhew or in game to Schwartz. If I remember accurately Linehan wanted to bench Titus in game but Schwartz wouldn't allow it.
I guess my point is that a coach can't block, catch, throw or defend. At some point players are responsible for their play. _________________
