Texans players have have a lot of success winning awards over our time period with some ROY awards and last year a DPOY award, so why not a thread to discuss who might be in the running this year

DPOY:
Cushing is a beast right now 16 tackels 2 sacks and a Pick 6
JJ WATT - 2 sacks 3 PDs, and he has name recognition

ROY:
Just looking across the league it shouldnt be close right now between Hopkins and anyone else. Maybe Austin will have a claim to it, but its gonna be an odd year where QBs and RBs dont make much noise as rookies....If EJ Manuel keeps playing well and they win 7 games, he might could sneak in there though

MVP:
Andre Johnson. This is what is missing from his resume. He is on pace, assuming he stays healthy, for a monster season...160 catches to be exact, and if he does that(doubtful) even with few TDs he would deserve MVP

Matt Schuab - The QB of the best team in football is always on the short list, and while Im not saying we are the best team in football, we could end the season at the top of the standings, and if he puts up numbers he might get a look...He gets to go against Brady, Manning, Kapernick, Flacco, Wilson, Luck and others to make his case

thoughts?

You catch the ball to set up your team for the potential tying TD (and 2 point conversion) while YOU ARE KNOCKED OUT = MVP candidate

(So I am playing a lil fast and loose with the details) Laughing

Keshawn Martin has been useless on punt returns so far, but is killing it on kickoffs. Jacoby is out of the picture for a month, so I can see a Pro Bowl spot coming down to an ironic battle between him & Trindon Holliday (who's 6 fumbles never got enough attention last year / just like Jacoby's gaffes outside of the Super Bowl). Keyshawn needs to break 1 or 2 for TD's to get himself on the map, but not start doing stupid Trindon or Jacoby stuff like running balls out from 8 yards deep in the end zone or fielding bouncing punts in a crowd to get attention.

BTW - Shane Lechler may be pushing Andre to be the first Texan player in the HOF. The Senior Committee are going to finally acknowledge Ray Guy in the next year or two and Lechler is already well on his way to surpassing Guy's record 7 Pro Bowls this season and hopefully 3 or 4 more. I don't want to see a bunch of punters in the HOF, but if Jan Stenerud is in there as a pure kicker, Guy should be there (Baugh & Blanda were also QBs, Groza was also an o-lineman, Yale Lary was also a dback). Once Guy is in, Lechler deserves a spot as despite Guy's rep, Lechler is by far, the best ever at his position.

FWIW - I also think Morton and Gary Anderson, Jason Hansen, and Adam Vinitieri deserve consideration. The latter might not be a better pure kicker than the other 3, but HOF reps are built in the post season and there has never been a better clutch kicker in the history of the game and he has 4 rings to prove it. I think we all saw this week the difference between a kicker who rises to the occasion and consistently wins games for his team in high pressure situations and just another kid with a big leg (as previously stated in his defense, Kubiak should never had played to set up a rookie for multiple 50 yarders that the most savvy vets miss 35-40% of the time).
