Gettlemen continues to be one of the most impressive GMs in football.
Johnson redoing his contract frees up almost $5m more in the salary cap.
I believe it means were going to give Cam and Hardy contract extensions. Hardy most likely before this seasons end. Cam will get his extension in the offseason.

we need to grab a WR or OT in FA this year. If not we need to trade back into the 1st and grab those two needs. |

Why would cam sign an extension? This organization is about to miss the playoffs for the 5th straight year...he wants to win above all else and it's the one thing we can't give him _________________

I don't think Cam would actually leave us. |

Hardy yes but there no way that Cam should be offer a contract extension after it appear we going to miss the playoff for the third year with him being the qb.... If anything else I expect this team bring in or draft another qb for competition next off season. |

If things continue this way for the rest of the season and we extend Cam, our entire front office should be fired before the fax arrives at NFL HQ. _________________

I don't really like this move... Sure it helps us THIS year, but it hurts us for the next 2 years.. His cap hits for the next 2 years were already High, and now they are even higher... I don't know that we can afford his cap hits for next year and the year after...

That's too much money I didn't realize how big his contract is. |

Cause Cam has been the reason we've been losing so many games.
Maybe ya'll forgot what it was like having the likes of Vinny Testeverde, Clausen and Brian St. Pierre at QB, but we are lucky to have a QB like Cam on the roster. _________________

Yeah but we may just release or trade him by then. I don't see his future with us lasting much longer. He's a good if not great DE. But this absurd contract will not be tolerated much longer. _________________

It would cost 17M in cap space to cut or trade him. Not gonna happen. He will just keep renegotiating his base salary to help out each year. Like he just did. |

I applaud Gettleman for getting this done. Ultimately; Gettleman is playing the CBA perfectly by clearing cap space for this year.
In case you forgot; while these is a basement on what you have to spend, there is also cap carryover, that allows teams to carry extra cap space year to year if it's not all used. This could be used to sign both Hardy and Cam. Not to mention, be able to cut some of the remaining bad contracts without going to cap hell and not being able to invest in FAs or sign our own. _________________

They'll do the same thing next year to reduce his hit (taking his $8.75M salary down to ~$1-2M), making his salary proratable. The next year he'd probably get cut as a June 1 cut, splitting the hit between two years. Or, he'll be extended. The cap hits shouldn't be all that bad. I'm not overly worried. _________________
