I had to record it. Judith wanted to watch Project Runway. At least I got the second half live. This is still good, since I was able to watch. Except for Texas teams and national games--no access. Two in a row is special.

Everyone is using the word "ugly". That is what this defense will do--make an offense ugly. Our offense is ugly without assistance.

I know Lewis was made to look bad on a couple of plays (and so were some other guys here and there).

Lets just remember, thats Lesean McCoy and Michael Vick doing that. These are not scrubs with the ball in their hands. They are really good (Vicks passing deficiencies excluded) and have made a lot of guys look rough trying to get an angle on them!

McCoy especially! He made some amazing jump cuts last night. Just amazing.

Also.. in another thread it was mentioned (onejayhawk) that big plays against bend dont break something or other.. this is absolutely not a bend dont break defense! I mean cmon!! This defense attacks. And with that.. some big plays will happen. Dez Bryant last week and Vick/McCoy this week. The rest of the time though you don't get nickle and dimed to death.. and you get off the field on 3rd down! We did that last night!

This coming week I can guarantee Cruz is gonna make a play.. a big play. It's just the nature of the beast! It's ok though.. cause along with that we will snuff some drives completely out and turn over some others. It all works! It's the 90's defense all over again! I love it.

yeah we aren't bend but don't break, we are shut them down for a while, give up a big play, tackle them before they hit the end zone, then tighten up and hold to FG. Rinse and repeat. It's refreshing to see.

What you say about bend but dont break has validity. However, look at the results. We are giving up yardage but not points. The attacking part comes in by generating sacks and turnovers.

There is a lot of single coverage, which means we pass rush or die. Who was here the year we had 13 sacks as a team? Hali had 7 of those. I used to refer to the LB corpse, because DJ was the only decent one and he was strictly weak side.

Jay I remember those days...pretty grim. My argument about giving up yards was to try and calm the folks (like my buddy not on the site) who are starting to think we're a top D. (My friend says we rival the Seahawks) I love that we're shutting down points, and it's absolutely winning game for us as they have been close the last two weeks. And our D is finally behaving like we all think it should, but in my opinion to jump to ELITE, we need to cut out yardage too.

We're certainly playing like a top 10 D though so far this season, this week will be another tough test.

The middle of our has improved tremendously. DJ was hobbled last year, Jordan has outplayed Belcher, while Poe and Berry have improved and thrive in this scheme.

the yards are coming from big plays. 60 yard run from Vick. long TD run from McCoy. The one deep ball to Jackson was 40 yards or so.

Quote:
Berry has only allowed 5 receptions for 35 yards in 3 games
1 interception
1 TD
2 Passes defended
1 Sack
1 Hurry
13 tackles and
7 Defensive stops

Looking pretty good for being overrated.

Yeah, pretty sure there were people in NFL Gen acting like he was an average safety....

Anyways I love how Sutton has been using Berry so far. He also should have 2 INT's if it weren't for that weak holding call last week.

We also need to let Houston almost exclusively rush the passer so that he can break Strahan's sack record

Berry almost had another one last night as well if he had made a pretty stellar catch.

This team is going to have possibly:

the best complete OLB in the game
A top 10 pass rush OLB
A top 5 Interior DL
Tyson Jackson who is a bad bad bad
A top 3 ILB
Top 5 CB
The BEST safety in the NFL. Yes I said. I believe it to be true. I'll take Berry over anyone hands down. We would have been saying this earlier if it wasn't for Steve F Johnson.

This D can be the best in the NFL.

Agreed with all said. Plus the other starters you didn't mention are pretty good complimentary players as well. Mike DeVito, Sean Smith, Kendrick Lewis, and Akeem Jordan.

Interesting factoid:

Quote:
The NFL announced Friday it credited Chiefs OLB Justin Houston with an additional sack in Thursday night's Week 3 win over Philadelphia, bringing his game total to 4.5.
The NFL's sack leader on the season, Houston has 7.5 through three games. Still only 24 years old, Houston on Thursday became the NFL's third-fastest pass rusher to record 20 sacks to open their career, trailing only Derrick Thomas and Jared Allen. We studied Houston's tape coming out of Georgia in 2011, and his get-off was among the most explosive we've ever seen from a college edge rusher. Houston fell to the third round due to off-field issues.

What do those three guys have in common?? Shocked

*waves hand* I know, I know.

Pretty impressive KC has top 3 fastest to 20. All legit pass rushers too.

Chiefs blitzed Vick on 6 of 37 drops. Most of the pressure he faced was against a four-man rush. Coverage was good but o-line struggled.

Shocked

Our pass rush has come a loooooooooooooooooong way, that Eagles OL isn't a slouch either.

I'm not even mad about the yards we allowed either, we played the game with two down linemen most of the time. It'll happen when you do that, certainly won't be the case against Houston.
